DS19 received merit aid from a test optional school without submitting scores.
Twin A got into her safety with huge merit aid! She is so relieved. I didnāt realize until it was way late in the game how important the rolling admissions safety is for emotional support.
Any newbies or future kids can learn from my mistake. Apply early action or preferably early to a rolling admit school that is a sure bet. Whether they will attend or not, the excitement for the first āCongratulationsā is truly a relief. Yay!!!
@TwinMom2023 - Congrats! We felt the same way at our house - a great feeling for sure!
@4kids4us Could you circle back with their opinions of Marist and Hobart. My D20 has those two in her list but we havenāt visited yet and neither seems to have a ton of info on this board.
@TwinMom2023 yes, that is very important. When D17 got that first admission, it was such as relief. I always tell people to have one rolling safety school on the list. S19 is in at UAH, which is nice.
@TwinMom2023 Congrats to Twin A!
Congratulations! Iām the poster that asked about EA to Rolling admissions. What if a school is not a safety, but probable, is it best to still apply EA in hopes that the application will go into rolling admissions if such school offers this? This will be a 1st full-time college student in my family and the thread has been a lifesaver.
Marist is hugely popular in our area. Number of applications from our school keep increasing. The feedback Iāve heard from those who are attending (have attended) is all very positive. I hear itās a beautiful campus too. Sorry I donāt have details to share, but it wasnāt on our list so I never got beyond āIām happy that you love itā.
@MAmom111 - We have only heard good things about Marist - was not on our radar, but those that go seem to love it.
@my2greatkids ā thatās the approach we used. Most of Dās acceptances have been EA schools that go into rolling admissions. Itās a HUGE relief having several great options already.
D19 received two more acceptances today!! The remaining schools I believe will have decisions mid Dec through early January.
Congrats @TwinMom2023 to twin A!
Maristā¦our neice attended and had a great experience. Has a great position at top firm. We visited when we heard about new PT program but D did not apply as the program was graduate only with no guaranteed entry for undergrads. Beautiful campus, new dorms and Health sciences building.
@MAmom111, Iāll definitely get some feedback for you but I canāt guarantee how much! Since Iām not on the trip, i wonāt be able to give my impressions and S19 never has much to say, even when Iām with him on the tours! I know next to nothing about Hobart except I have been in the Finger Lakes region and itās a beautiful area with lots of things to do for those who are outdoorsy. The only first hand information I have is from a couple of friends who attended 30 years ago. The daughter of a friend of a friend is currently a student there and my friend just saw her recently when she was home for fall break. She had brought her roommate home with her and they both told my friend how much they love the school.
A friendās son just graduated from Marist a year or two ago and absolutely loved it. D has a classmate there now who is a sophomore. Heās a former teammate of S19 but S19 didnāt know him at all. However, D texted the guy and mentioned S19 was coming up this weekend, so he is going to give my son an informal tour. Sometimes I think those type of tours can actually give a better perspective than the official tours. Plus, the guy is a student athlete, which my son might be depending on how recruitment goes.
I really wanted to go with them as Iād love to see both campuses but one of our dogs got spayed this week so couldnāt leave her. Hopefully Iāll get some good insight, if not from S19, than from my husband.
S received an acceptance from Duquesne today with merit. Now with two acceptances, he has a choice and itās just a matter of making up his mind.
Congrats to your S @me29034!! Itās nice to have choices.
Congrats @TwinMom2023 and @me29034 . I know that you are so excited for your kids.
Thatās great news @me29034! Have heard good things about Duquesne!
DS19 was surprised to receive an invitation to be a part of the Honors Program at Flagler College. It did not require an additional application, so we had no idea. He was so happy and validated. He applied test optional because his scores were not a true reflection of his academic abilities. It is so good to see that some schools really do wholistic reviews.
I just wanted to post a congratulations to everyone on this thread, whether they or their kids have been accepted somewhere or are still waiting. Everyone has worked hard - parents and kids- to work their way through the admissions process to find their best fit for college. We are in Georgia and the UGA EA decisions came out this afternoon - my son did not even apply as he knew he would have no chance at admission - EA or RD because he falls into the stats on this thread. However, he has many friends who are desperate to get in because they see it as their only option and donāt always have the support to consider other colleges that could be a good fit for them. I have been reading some of the UGA threads out of interest and it occurred to me that many applying to these state flagship schools that are so competitive now are in terrible states of anxiety and often feel total failures when deferred. So, kudos to everyone here for their support and advice and letās hope that everyone lands in a place that is a good fit for them overall.
Congratulations @carolinamom2boys on the Honors Program invite at Flagler for your son! Both my husband and I graduated from there so if you have any questions about the school or the city of St. Augustine, please feel free to reach out. It was a wonderful experience for both of us and I hope he is strongly considering the school.
@VaNcBorder thank you. We visited the school over the summer. We were extremely impressed by the faculty and students we encountered there. We live in SC and were eager to see the Graphic Arts department, but unfortunately the department was being renovated. When I approached someone at the college to see if there was any way to see at least a part of the building, she found a GD major to give us a private tour with another family from Colorado. He spent over an hour with us. It was amazing . I think that it would be a great fit for him and it ranks high on his list.
