Parents of the HS Class of 2019 - 3.0 to 3.4 GPA

@Britmom5 - Congrats!

Congrats @Britmom5

EA decisions from University of Denver are out - check portal. D19 is in!??

@TwinMom2023

I am not sure if the question was about xmas gifts for post acceptance stuff but I’d really encourage everyone NOT to do that for xmas gifts. These kids have so much pressure around this stuff and it is their ā€œlastā€ Christmas truly as a kid at their parents. While swag is ok, save the practical stuff for later unless it’s something your child wants and needs now. Also, know your kid. Just because they go to a cold school does not mean they will want x/y/z item that others might for that climate.

My S17 for example, would never ever wear rain boots, has some very nice Sorels that barely see the light of day. I wish I wouldn’t have bought them and waited until he was there and let him tell me what he really needed. The dorm mountain is real, don’t start adding to it yet if you can avoid it.

@DCNatFan Congratulations!!!

@Britmom5 Congratulations!

@eandesmom Thanks. It’s so hard to know what all they’ll need and easy to get carried away. Twin A has zero on her Christmas list so she might get some practical stuff. I also might send her to New Hampshire to shop with her aunt since I know nothing about extreme cold. If she doesn’t get in, who knows what she’ll need.

Less than a week for so many EDs/EAs. We can do it everyone!!!

D19 was accepted today to Ithaca 3+3 physical therapy program w merit. Still not in price range but she is eligible for additional scholarship if she submits another application. Hard to get her motivated for that but will see what the weekend brings. Also not feeling well…head and body aches…home from school today. Praying she feels better tomorrow, esp with finals and midterms!

Congrats to you and your S’s @Britmom5 !!

Congrats @Turquoise52 and @EENYMum

I know Univ of Denver has posted their decisions. Let’s see if my D will check it. She really hates these portals for some reason.

Good news was my D was accepted to Univ of Denver! Bad news was it looks like they are not offering any merit.

@Britmom5 congratulations! Could I ask your S19’s stats as my D20
Is looking at Susquehanna as well and trying to figure out if it is a match.

Congrats @JBSeattle ! D also not big on portals…much prefers the envelopes!

@EENYMum
She will look at the portal of my Wife starts complaining. You don’t want to mess with Italians ?.

@eandesmom I was the original poster asking about Christmas ideas. I wasn’t asking about gifts with college necessarily in mind. My son is still in the application process so we don’t even have a clue where he’s going to end up. Others did jump in with some suggestions about practical things like raincoats, boots, etc. I don’t have a problem with those kind of gifts b/c my kids get those kinds of gifts regardless of whether they are off to college. I was really just looking for general ideas for what 17/18 y/o boys are hoping to get this year. My son gave me three ideas - a shirt, a video game and a duffle bag. However, last night we were at his fall sports awards dinner and all the senior boys got UA duffle bags - the exact same one I was planning to get him! So now I’m back down to two ideas. He is always my hardest to buy for.

Congrats to all those getting acceptances! It’s exciting to see what a wide range of schools everyone is getting into. Hopefully S19 will hear something soon.

@4kids4us gotcha!

My 18 year old has a list full of electronic related items (many of which I’m not entirely sure what they are) so I am not much help there.

The 19 year old boy loves clothes but is picky and would probably be happiest if he got concert tickets to something. What, I don’t know! He is fun to buy clothes for but he really doesn’t need a thing so I have no clue.

I admit I did hit buy him her college swag. He never asks, had found a rugby last spring he wanted and it finally came back in stock in his size. It could have waited till Christmas but it was far more fun to send it as a finals good luck gift.

@4kids4us – my D will be in a theatre tech (design/production) program and will need to assemble her own toolkit, so we are getting some items for her toolkit for Christmas gifts to spread out the cost. Not sure of your son’s major, but it might be a way to get some ā€œpracticalā€ items. (Nothing says I love you like a ratchet set! LOL)

(Nothing says I love you like a ratchet set! LOL) - theatre tech’s need a lot!

I love this. Twin A has nothing on her list. She might love her own tool kit for a dorm!! Thanks.

thank you everyone for all of your kind words and advice. My son was also accepted to University of Houston yesterday and he informed this would be his first choice. He has applied to about 15 schools across the south, lol but Texas is where his heart is.

These acceptances are so exciting!! Keep 'em coming!

@ga19tex
Congrats! Guess he will be clapping a lot to ā€œDeep In The Heart of Texasā€!

Congrats @Britmom5 ! Susquehanna is such a great school. We were just up there this weekend. Mr. InfiniteWaves wanted S19 to do one more visit there before we put the deposit down on Penn State. I’m still in the process of emotionally breaking up with Susquehanna. And the scholarship they gave him that brought the COA down below Penn State’s. LOL!

And congrats @JBSeattle ! Sorry about the no merit part.
