Parents of the HS Class of 2019 - 3.0 to 3.4 GPA

Congratulations to everyone on the great acceptance news! Hugs for everybody!

I have been lurking and enjoying the recent flurry of good news for some of you. Congratulations!

I am waiting on pins and needles like most of you. Some of S’s schools are snail mail only as well. Our letter carrier seems to be a sort of night owl who keeps his own bizarre hours and it makes me crazy even without waiting on college letters. Sometimes he doesn’t deliver the mail until 9 p.m., I kid you not. My theory is that he takes frequent “smoke” breaks that slow him to a crawl

Ack it’s going to be a long two weeks.

My S was accepted to Furman University ED (waiting to hear about financials), Susquehanna w/ scholarship, and Quinnipiac w/ scholarship. Unfortunately, we won’t get to hear about the others since he had to pull the applications according to his college counselor.

@megan12
Why? Is he not interested in the other schools? Were you both satisfied with the merit offered by Susquehanna and Quinnipiac?

@JBSeattle when you apply ED you are committed to go there unless the financial situation does not work out . It’s in the contract when you apply ED. That’s why ED should only be used if a student is committed to going to that school and you have a reasonable idea that financially it is feasible.

You shouldn’t have to pull other apps though until you get the FA award and can see that it will work out.

@megan12 don’t pull your S’s other apps until you get the financial info from Furman and know it works for your family.

@megan12 when did you hear from quinnipiac? We got nothing yet over here!

Just to clarify
the ED is fully binding if you did not submit for financial aid, right? The binding can’t be broken based on MERIT aid or lack there of. I think that is the case, but not 100% sure.

@carolinamom2boys
I know about ED. Sorry, my eyes completely glossed over that part!!!

So after the gratuitous letter carrier abuse yesterday he showed up early (for him, around 6 pm) bearing an acceptance from Allegheny with generous merit. So, hooray! It’s one of S’s top choices and the aid puts it in the within budget reach.

@fwtxmom - Great news! Congrats!

@fwtxmom
