Parents of the HS Class of 2019 - 3.0 to 3.4 GPA

Congrats @fwtxmom!!!

Just learned two of S19’s EA schools will post decisions on Friday at 7 pm (CST) - so now I have a nervous stomach and I’m sure S19 is feeling even more so. He’ll be finishing up work when decisions are released and then meeting his grandpa for dinner - meaning he’ll have to check on his phone, but at least we have that technology now; when I passed the Bar you had to wait for snail mail or go down to the state supreme court office and look for your name printed on a list posted outside.

Oh, well - whatever will be, will be. Good luck everyone as I’m sure there will be quite a few decisions this Friday. Exciting but nerve-racking at the same time!

@natty1988
If your Son has applied to Western Washington, they should be prompt. My daughter applied EA but the decision only took about 3 weeks!
My daughter is also applying to SDSU. They are evidently sending mid December decisions to high stat kids (my D is not one of those) and at least some OOS students (she is one of those).

Congrats @ga19tex @megan12 @fwtxmom and everyone else!

Just ordered caps and gowns for twins. Hard to believe 2019 is almost here. How can that be?

D19 accepted to University of Scranton Biology/PT today. It came regular mail in great envelope…no portal. We are all excited. It is my top pick, and tied for 1st for D19 and DH.
She also was accepted into Ithaca’s program yesterday. She really liked it but DH and I not so much. Good merit but with high price, still out of reach.
Love this group. I follow regular class of 2019 thread, but it is not the same as this awesome group!

@EENYMum congratulations! Great news x2! We had a similar situation with Ithaca with my S17.

@natty1988 WWU, CSU and NAU are all basically rolling (even if they don’t say that) so you should hear on the sooner side for those even if RD.

I like CSU’s scholarship strategy, big envelope that says SCHOLARSHIP AWARD on the front. LOL. And an actual certificate. Makes it fun to open the mail even if it was an auto award we knew was coming (WUE).

Congrats on all of the acceptances.

@EENYMum Yay!!! Such great news. Two options. You could always go back to Ithaca and ask for more aid. Anyway, Scranton with money is super!!

Hoping everyone gets big envelopes!!

@EENYMum - Great news!!!

Way to keep it rolling @EENYMum !

Given that all our kids are getting accepted everywhere, I should have had my daughter apply to Stanford ?!

Congrats @EENYMum !

Tomorrow my D should hear from Vermont with Drexel, Ohio Wesleyan and Manhattan likely before end of week!

To everyone that asked - S was sent 3 emails by the college counselor to cancel his other applications. I was pissed because he still has about 4 applications out, and I wanted to see if he was accepted or not. We still have every intention of sending him to Furman, but it would have been nice to see the decisions and financials that are coming out this week. I told him to wait another week, but he had already notified the other colleges.

Ugh @megan12 that sounds so super frustrating! We have an ED acceptance and got the FA award but really need to meet with them (we will be going next week) to make sure we understand every detail. We are pretty sure (at this moment) we are going to be able to do it, but I don’t want to pull apps until we are 100%. We aren’t dilly dallying and are actively working at it, going in to ask all our questions as soon as we can. If my D had a counselor pressuring her to pull other apps before we get those answers, I would be so angry. (Although, she already had the EA acceptance and the others won’t come out until February, well past the point of no return for the ED school anyway so it isn’t exactly the same.)

@megan12
Too bad seems like you should be able to know that Fuhrman will at least meet your EFC before having to pull apps.

@EENYMum Congrats on Scranton!

I know. It stinks. S felt really pressured so he caved. I wish he would have discussed it with me before he pulled the apps.

@megan12 I’d be livid. We are still waiting on our ED full financial package (and merit appeal) and no way are we pulling apps until that’s in.

We have until 1/15 to deposit and to me that’s until 1/15 to pull apps. Our GC is looped in. We have one school announcing on the 23rd.

@megan12 just a little info. Furman is not overly generous with merit aid. There are only 4 full rides. Their other merit awards are also limited with 10 35,000 awards for instate and 10 for OOS. They require the additional essays to be considered. When my son was invited to scholarship day, there were 1200 essay applicants and they invited 48 for interviews. He did not receive one of the competitive scholarships, but was offered a 22,500 dollar scholarship. With our instate scholarships of 7,500 a year, our COA was approx 27,000 a year. My son was ranked 4th of 468, wgpa 4.98, uwgpa 3.9, 8 APs, Eagle Scout, lots of volunteer hrs, leadership positions, NHS, Beta Club, Academic and Science competition teams, 32 ACT.
