UVM EA decisions are out! Check portals!! (D is in and very, very happy)
@carolinamom2boys Heâs definitely not getting a scholarship. Weâre just waiting for the CSS. We knew we wouldnât be getting much when he applied ED.
@megan12 , I think almost everyone gets at least 18,000 dollars.
Congratulations, @Turquoise52. One of my nephews is a senior at UVM and his dad teaches there. Itâs a great school.
Thanks @rosered55, she is so excited!!
Strange results for my D today. She was deferred at Vermont but granted admittance to San Diego St which on paper has much higher admission standards than Vermont. I think she will withdrawal from Vermont as she needed merit aid for that school to make sense.
@Turquoise52
Congrats on the Vermont acceptance. Did she receive a scholarship?
S19 accepted into UVMâŠdirect admit into the business program. Itâs one of his top 2 or 3 schools so he is incredibly happyâŠas am I. Received enough merit to put it in the ballpark of the cost of his two other top choices.
Great news @SwimmingDad! Great schoolâŠ
@JBSeattle, I need to look at the portal myself (I am at work, she is at school, and I do not have access to portals) because according to posts I see here on CC, it is sometimes a separate letter, but I donât think so. By NPC. she seemed to qualify for $8000, but I am not sure how that all works. I will confirm when I get home and let you know. Iâm sorry to hear about deferral - it seems like yield protection to me - but congratulations on SDSU - it is a fantastic school and San Diego is heaven on earth.
@JBSeattle - My friend sent two daughters to SDSU and she is an alum herselfâŠthey loved everything about it - both girls got great jobs and are living happily ever after in San Diego!
@JBSeattle I agree that there were a bunch of really odd deferrals to UVM⊠Iâm glad your D has other great options. For us, even with the merit, itâs still a little too pricey.
Congrats on the latest rounds of acceptances and bah humbug to any deferrals!
S19 still just has the acceptance to Indiana (where he no longer intends to audition) - not sure whatâs going on with the others and he may just have to wait until after auditions to hear anything.
He just got a mailing indicating that he was directly accepted into Indianaâs Honors College and he actually made a face and said he thought he had indicated that he wasnât interested in that. This kid is a joy sometimes, lol!
Congrats to your daughter @JBSeattle on San Diego. Great school and closer to home!
Congrats @SwimmingDad and @Turquoise52 !!
My wife is now in official freak out mode. She is mad at me for offering more expensive options. I guess she doesnât understand that you donât know for sure what will happen. Her attitude is pretty annoying. She is also mad about SDSU because it is at the top of our budget and thinks my D should just have applied to schools in budget where she would not have to work and of course no loans. Well, Western Washington fits that. I am willing to listen if my D has a compelling reason why SDSU is worth $15K more per year. I think Cal Poly might be worth it but we have to wait until March for that one.
If i could predict merit aid and admissions results with precision then that would be pretty amazing :).
@SwimmingDad A big congrats!!!
@JBSeattle - college application time is so much stress. Breathe and know that it will work out. San Diego sounds pretty sweet - much warmer. When you learn prediction methods, start your side business for college consultant and that will offset the $15k.
MeanwhileâŠno mail today for Twin B and Twin A should know tomorrow and then can follow up with a phone re: dual enrollment calculus fail. Ah yesâŠfun times.
@TwinMom2023 our D19 also has a DE class that is kicking her butt. I looked over âsyllabusâ and outlines and. curriculum and have to say it is ridiculous and so narrow in scope. A full semester of busy work. Once she is done I will gladly warn other kids/parents about it ?Wish she/we were able to see this before signing up!
@EENYMum You knowâŠsometimes it just helps to know we arenât alone so thank you. I am crossing fingers that an acceptance would not be rescinded since this class isnât needed for high school. By way of small world, met one of his students who did poorly in this class last year. Ugh. Done is done. I think sheâll get acceptance tomorrow and can call on Monday to give them a heads up, but not what we needed.
Looking forward to the next phase of stress - room mates? Deposits? Bring it.
@Twinmom2014
My wife is just crazy pissed. My D has options which is what I wanted. She is whining that my D would have to work to go to a âstate schoolâ. I donât even know if my D wants to go there over Western Washington (which is $15k per year cheaper).
The other schools she got into are unrealistic: U Denver at $65k per (zippo aid), Drexel at about $55k per (after about $13k per year in merit), deferral from Vermont so if she got in no aid so $55k per. She still has Manhattan College which could give good aid, Cal Poly (same as SDSU but in my opinion better option). I made her apply to Ohio Wesleyan where it seems she qualifies for a $30k scholarship but both her and my wife do not like the idea. Occidental and San Diego are going to be tough to get into with probably no aid.
My problem is a huge $55k crazy EFC. Donât know I could have advised much else. She has options and one is for sure affordable, or debatable and one that should be affordable (albeit seems undesirable to my D).
I suppose she could apply elsewhere but hard to beat value of Western Washington. Not sure what else to do. Maybe I just need a divorce (only sort of kidding).
