@Longhaul I am very sorry about Seattle U, but wow, that’s a lovely lovely offer from Ursinus!!! Huge. We absolutely loved it when we toured with S17.
With 9, she has lovely options and the ball is in her court now, as it should be.

@Longhaul Congrats to your D! My D received $28k from Ursinus and it was a serious contender. Great school with very supportive atmosphere. Good luck to your D in making a decision with so many good choices.
@Longhaul Congrats on Ursinus! We know a few kids there who absolutely love it.
Sigh. It’s happened again. UConn decisions came out yesterday and D19 did not get a decision. Now she tells me she got an email a couple of weeks ago saying her transcripts weren’t in. She had talked to her GC,who assured her they were in. The portal says her app was complete on Feb 13th. The deadline was Jan 15th. She submitted her app and scores Dec 3rd. You may recall something similar happened with UMaryland, and she was pushed to RD vs. EA. Now, with UConn it looks like she’s not even RD.
Fortunately, she’s happy with the acceptances she has in hand, and UConn is not a priority. But I am not happy with her GC right now. Though I do understand that D is also responsible for keeping on top of the portals, (1) it can be confusing since every school’s portal is different, and (2) her high school shouldn’t be dropping the ball to begin with.
I’m just frustrated right now. Sorry for venting. On the positive side, D will be traveling to Columbus tomorrow, to visit Ohio State (one of her acceptances). She did not have a chance to visit before she applied, but we all think she’ll really like it.
@momzilla2D so sorry for the mess up. You’re daughter has great choices. She will thrive wherever she goes.
Congrats on Ursinus @Longhaul
@momzilla2D, I’m so sorry for your frustration.
With S1, who has executive functioning issues, I was very hands on to track everything. And, I know both the counselor and registrar got sick of me calling them. Several of his classmates had the high school drop the ball. This was a private school with <25 seniors!
@momzilla2D How frustrating! That stinks - especially as it was out of your control. One of my S19s applied to our intake flagship for music - omitting to sign up for the auditions. the other S19 was accepted weeks and weeks ago. I’m guessing music boy’s app is lost in limbo-land, and filed with all of the other ‘do we want this level of disorganization kids’ piles!!
@momzilla2D I would be livid. And I’d be elevating this. These GC’s are responsible for things that can be life changing, there is no excuse if things were requested on time to have never been sent.
If I drop the ball and submit a proposal late, and my company is disqualified from an opportunity it’s a clear failure to meet a job specific requirement.
This is no different.
@britmom5 Have either of you contacted the school to see where he stands? My son applied to music at 7 schools and only auditioned at 4. He has academic acceptances from two of the schools where he didn’t audition (Rutgers and Indiana), but with the third one (Temple), it is clear that his entire application is contingent upon completion of the audition - I suppose he could ask to be considered for a different major, but otherwise, he will remain in limbo until he gets around to withdrawing the application.
@momzilla2D I"m sorry that happened to your daughter twice, ugh! I hope UConn wasn’t a top choice for her if it turns out that they won’t even consider her application.
Thanks @carolinamom2boys @Longhaul @Britmom5 @eandesmom & @eh1234
I am pretty upset, but trying to take a measured approach. I’ve emailed the GC to ask what happened. UConn was not a top choice, but I would have liked for it to be A choice. I’m more upset about Maryland. That one was high on the list. Now, I think it has slipped down D’s list, just because it’s been so long. And I feel like if there was any chance of merit money, there’s not any more. It really is inexcusable.
@momzilla2D
I am really sorry to hear about your bad experience!
When my nephew was a senior in high school (2015?), his transcripts weren’t submitted to some or all schools. In the end, things worked out fine; he is very happy at the university he attends. But at the time, obviously, it was very distressing. The one aspect of the situation that seemed to me to be a mitigating factor for his high school is that relatively few of the students go to college; I figured the GC typically had more pressing issues, such as making sure students graduated from the high school. But that’s probably not at play for your daughter, @momzilla2D.
We are back from admitted student day at College of Charleston yesterday. We had a great day and enjoyed the event but D19 told me about midway through the day that she does not see herself attending so it is off the list. I’m disappointed because I love Charleston but we want her to trust her gut.
Looks like we are down to a final four: Miami Ohio, Pitt, VA Tech, and JMU.
@DCNatFan I had a similar experience with D17. We had a great time in Charleston (we made it fun long girls’ weekend), but her response was “I like it, but I don’t love it.” She did keep it on her list but eventually chose a different school. I too was a wee bit disappointed. Your D has some great remaining choices!
@momzilla2D how very frustrating. I hope you can figure out where the disconnect is so this doesn’t happen to another student in the future.
DCNatFan, I get the frustration, but, boy, does she have great options!
Some wonderful (and very different) choices remaining there, @DCNatFan !
Congratulations to all with good news! Are your kids relying on admitted students days and mostly going with their guts to make decisions? St Olaf and Whitman College came in as acceptances for D last week. So far, other than Lewis & Clark, where the 144 days of sun per year and lack of easy access to a barn knocked it off the list even though they put on a great admitted students day, the kids and professors seem happy and engaged, and the campus is gorgeous, she can see herself going to most of the schools she’s beeen accepted to. Good problem to have, I know, but she is starting to stress out about making a decision. We made a spreadsheet that should help, but she doesn’t really want to focus on it. Just wondering what, other than gut and finances, has had the biggest influence on decisionmaking for your kids?
@Turquoise52 Looks like your D has great options! For my D, gut feeling was big and she loved her #1 from the minute she stepped on campus. Then a very enticing offer from #2 school really threw her off. Ultimately, choice of major was different at each and was the final deciding factor. Second to that, she’s going far from home and wants to be around plenty of other students who are also far from home (#2 school had a very local draw). Good luck, there are a million different ways to make a decision. It was really interesting to watch my D wrestle with the choice, because learning how to do that is a great life lesson!
@Turquoise52 Money and location.
