I admit I am simultaneously aghast and amused. My D is a recruited athlete, but at the schools that fit this thread, there is no admissions advantage to that. Elite schools get what they want through the admissions and recruiting process but I guess it hasn’t occurred to them how much “gaming of the system” there is on the applicant (parent) side of things? One begets the other.
On a totally different note, Skidmore decisions are out and my D is in! My first choice for her. We will see what she decides, but I am drinking a nice cab in her honor tonight. Hope some of you heard same for your kids today!
Thanks all for the advice and support in the past year. As my D is studying IB full diploma, we cannot figure the equivalent GPA score. Her predicted grade for IB diploma is 34 out of 45, so she should be fit in this forum. My D finally settle for her college decision. She is accepted by 6 out of 7 applied colleges.
Accept with merit scholarship: WSU (instate) , ASU, UAlbany, Seattle U
Accept without scholarship: Penn State
Accept for spring admission: UMD
Rejected: UW (instate)
As UMD is a reach for her, she decides to enrol UMD Freshmen Connection in Fall, even it is the most expensive choice and far away from home.
@Turquoise52 Congratulations to your D on her Skidmore acceptance!
@ashmomhk Congratulations to your D for all of her acceptances and especially for her final decision! Very exciting!
Congrats @Turquoise52, and congrats on having a decision made @ashmomhk!
S19 is just waiting for his last decision (JMU, maybe coming tomorrow?) Assuming he gets in, he’ll be choosing between JMU (in-state) and UMD.
Congratulations @eh1234 !
Congrats both of you!!
@SwimmingDad WooHoo. What a long journey. Congratulations. You aren’t allowed to retire from CC. You have been so helpful!!
@ashmomhk congrats on your decision. My daughter was also accepted for spring 2020 and was going to do freshman connection for umd. However, she did not get into the business college (they accepted her into letters & sciences) and after a lot of research she decided against it because it is extremely challenging to transfer into the business school at umd. Did your D get into her 1st choice program?
Congrats everybody!
According to my tracker , we have 80 more days until graduation.
We have 68 days until graduation - May 21. I feel nauseous. Way, way too much to do between now and graduation.
HI everyone! At some point in the next week or 2 I hope to update our results. If you are participating, please update the document and if you are not, but would like to, PM me and I can send details.
@Turquoise52 Congratulations on Skidmore!
@ashmomhk Congratulations! I hope that UMD is the best fit for her, and the decision isn’t only because it was the most “reachy” school she got into. All that matters is it is the best fit for her, that a family can afford.
JMU decisions are posted! (And yes, she’s in. )
@OrangeFish Congrats!
D19 also accepted after being deferred in EA round.
Congrats @DCNatFan! Same for D – deferred from EA round and accepted today!
Congratulations on the JMU acceptances!!
@OrangeFish and @DCNatFan
Congratulations @OrangeFish and @DCNatFan!!! Is that the favorite for either of you?
@Britmom5 – thank you!
D has already been accepted to UNCSA which is her top BFA school. She initially wanted to apply to BA schools, and JMU was toward the top of the list. Then she pivoted to BFA schools. I don’t think she thought she would ever get accepted to JMU due to her GPA.
Now she’s just aflutter . . . she read the portal screen, jumped up and down, and then headed off to work. (She is a props artisan and is working to save $$ for college.)
My words to her were “Congratulations! Be safe driving to work! And no need to make any decisions today!”
(I know this decision does wonders for her self-esteem.)
