Congratulations @ifer67 and @bjscheel!
Just a few more days to go. We still have a few things in flux, but should know by May 1 where he’s going. LOL!

@bjscheel Congratulations to your daughter on her scholarships! So cool that you both got the same local scholarship.
@bjscheel - That’s great!
@bjscheel Woohoo! Congratulations!
Congrats @bjscheel !
Well, prom dress shopping was a breeze - D19 bought the first dress she tried on at the first store we went in! She wanted to start in a trendy store that’s mostly casual but stocks a few prom style dresses. There was just one she liked… and it was gorgeous, it fit beautifully, and it was near the bottom of the expected price range! Glad that’s out the way with no last minute stress this year!
Congrats on all the recent good news regarding acceptances, scholarshipsfinding new places to live, and prom preparations and shopping. Very exciting.
Over the weekend my son’s team won a tournament that they’ve never won in the 45 years of its existence. His coach has coached the team for 28 years and has never won! The guy was so happy!! It came right down to the last event, and they pulled it off. It was exciting and fun to see, and even though the weather was really cold and windy it was worth it to stay and watch.
This week son19 has their Senior Bash and the kids are prepping for AP exams. I think those are next week right?
After that, he’s basically done with school stuff, and just has to wait until early June for graduation.
Prom tickets paid for, tech week for senior show begun. Son is nominated for a local Cappies award, but is pissed off that he’s in the Best Supporting Actor category instead of Best Actor. “I had the most lines in that show!” Sigh. He’s getting angry more often these days. Senioritis? At least he’s still pleasant to us. So far.
@SJ2727 - I find your prom dress story amazing! My daughter tried on more dresses than that for her brother’s graduation, and we’re not even sure about what we ended up with. Congratulations! Glad it was a happy outing.
I miss prom dress shopping with my daughter. She was easy and looked good in several dresses, so not a chore at all.
My son’s prom is Friday. Ordered his rental tux online and it was delivered to the house. We have a tuxedo shirt and bought a “real” black bowtie and a pocket square to match his date’s dress. Parents have organized a group dinner and bus. Kids here drive downtown to the monuments and take photos, then to prom and the school has a post-prom party til 3:30am. Can’t wait to see a group of them before they head out.
@Trixy34 , I know, right! I was expecting it to take ages, and had blocked off an entire afternoon! We were home an hour after we left, including another stop.
She still needs a graduation dress, though! Hopefully that will be fairly painless.
@ninakatarina sorry to hear about the anger, I do wonder if it’s partly all the swirling emotions these kids are facing right now - with leaving home being both exciting and scary, and still having to get through exams etc. I guess just being understanding and there for him is what parents need to do at this stage.
@RightCoaster , how awesome for your son and his team!
My son finally committed to Purdue last night!! I am so thrilled for him. He was really dragging this out but I completely understood and supported that - no matter how crazy it was making me. For all of those still waiting with your child, hold on…May 1 is coming!! They will hit accept and then you get to buy gear!! wishing all the best to the Class of 2019!!!
@PopUpZone1921 congrats!
So many more congratulations today! @PopupZone1921 for a great decision, @ninakatarina for S’s Cappies nomination @RighCoaster for son’s team tournament win, and to @SJ2727 for a quick and painless Prom dress shopping.
My D’s shows went off great, despite the first being after a full long day of school (dress rehearsal as soon as school was out, and then on to the first show), the second was after a 8-1 symposium, and the last show, at 3 PM, was the day after the end of the season party which went late into the night. Many tears were shed, gifts were exchanged (choreographers always get gifts for their dancers, juniors write poems on large posters for seniors, and read them out before the last show, etc), and the difficulty in believing that it’s over, after four years and 8 seasons.
Her duet was absolutely stunning, BTW, the choreography was sophisticated and intricate, and they pulled it off perfectly. I saw it three times, and I still cannot believe that it was done by two 17 year old kids over a period of three months after school (in between H/W, their dance lessons, etc).
My girls had so much fun at their prom! I can happily say that they enjoyed it to the max and in the end I spent only $150 all in (tickets, dresses, shoes, jewelry, and post-prom pancakes) for two girls together. Thank goodness because the afternoon of the prom we got two (!!) flat tires on the way home from my D20’s ballet performance. Added to that, her performance was lovely despite only one practice. I posted her video to my FB and one of our family friends commented that it moved her to tears- not a compliment my 15yo has gotten before! All in all a great weekend. There is now less than three weeks to graduation!
@PopUpZone1921 Congratulations on your son’s decision!
And congratulations on the great performances, @MWolf and @milgymfam ! I hold have been a complete mess.
@momzilla2D My D’s friend, who was the other half of the duet and was the lead dancer in the piece my kid choreographed, is trying to choose between two programs, one of which is at OSU’s dance department…
@milgymfam and @mwolf, yay for happy prom nights and great performances !
Sigh, S has been kidnapped by aliens and swapped with a body double. That’s the only explanation. Today is senior ditch day. Administration has been adamant that there will be consequences for participating. S yesterday announced his intention to participate. “I’m tired of being the good and upstanding guy all the time. I want to do something wild and risky for once!”, What? No, bad idea! He asked me to call him in sick or ‘mental health day’ (hmmmm). Did he lose his mind? Did he think the admin was stupid? He is captain of the soccer team and they are going into play off season. S19 argued that there was no way that his coach would bench the senior starters. I argued that the administration was likely to think that was the perfect appropriate consequence for participating in ditch day. I convinced him to talk to his coach last night—to risk forcing his coach to bench the captain and others starters was a horrible thing to do. Thankfully, S recovered his senses and did go to school, but honestly who is this body-double in my house?!
P.S. I know at some schools ditch day is not a big deal. But S’s school doesn’t approve of it. They ‘assign’ an official ditch day in the last week but at S’s school that week all the seniors are off campus so seniors think that was a passive-aggressive move by admin. The seniors planned their own ditch day for this week when they are on campus.
@liska21 - senior skip day was a huge no no where I went to high school. A number of years earlier, a student had died in a motorcycle accident driving home from the senior skip party. I believe our consequences would have been not being able to walk for graduation. It was no joke. Consequently, I have not been to enthusiastic to help S19 with skip days. My feeling is, I’m not going to call and lie to the school for that. But his Dad will, so it’s OK. Lol. And the administration doesn’t seem to care.
@liska21 Whew! Dodged a bullet there! Senior ditch day isn’t a huge deal for students here…except for athletes. Those kids cannot miss or they will be benched and maybe for more than one meet or game. All of the track kids were at school on senior ditch day. Glad your S came to his senses!
