@elena13 we were not really anxious. But, sad about declining a few schools that really tried hard to recruit my kids. Some of those admissions staffers were wonderful. St Olaf and Earlham especially.
Whoo hoo! Now Iām REALLY all done with the college process. Not only has D19 decided what school she will attend (though she got in early, so weāve known that for awhile), but now she has finally made a decision on whether to do a gap year or not. Yes, is that answer, and Iām so excited for her. Ironically, it was attending the revisit day that made her decision ā she still loves the school, but came away feeling like thereās just so much to get involved with that it was almost overwhelming. I think she finally realized that if she took a break first, sheād be much more ready to dive in to college and make the most of it when she does get there. So now off to New Zealand for the fall and then South America (Bolivia and Peru) for the spring!
@soxmom Congratulations! Once you are through the next few weeks of the end of senior year, things are smooth sailing. New Zealand will be a blast. She may not come home from there! We are anxiously awaiting our DDs return from her 10 month year away. She doesnāt have a moment planned at home-starting with friends from her alma mater arriving on our doorstep the day after she gets home and then a week later, she heads off to graduation in the northwest corner on CT. I am arguing moms have rights, too! Anyhow, glad for you and the others celebrating the end of what has become an untenable process in many ways. Hooray!
@elena13 I hear you. I actually called Bowdoin to confirm that S19 has accepted their offer. We got a receipt for our payment but no other communication to say welcome to the class or anything. I was so afraid to decline anywhere else until I knew for sure they got his response. He declined schools over a few days. Declining eight schools in one sitting made us all feel a little nauseous and he left his other favorites for last.
We got a āreceipt of matriculationā that closed with Welcome to Bowdoin- I think it said more info to come in early May. Still havenāt done all the other schools but need to do that!
@momsquared33 We did finally get that email but it was four days after he accepted the spot. All good!
Right there with you @elena13 havenāt hit that decline button on any school yet. Just today D got news that sheās been accepted off the waitlist at UMiami! Without prompting, they said that any merit would be included with her acceptance letter. Not holding my breath, but weāll see. If itās good, I hope that letter comes before thereās no chance of getting my $500 deposit back.
@EganAg had never heard of Macalester, so I had to look it up. Sounds like a great little school and what a beautiful campus! Read about Kofi Annanās tie to the school, very cool.
@elena13 D19 finally hit the decline button on her #2 school a couple days ago. It was the best financial offer, a great academic opportunity, awesome housing, a fantastic honors program, but ultimately not as good of a fit as her #1 option. It was tough for her to hit the decline button. She finally just closed her eyes & clicked.
She still has one more school to let know, but there is no easy button or post card. Sheāll have to email or snailmail her decision not to attend. Iām glad the admissions person sheād been working with moved onto another job a couple of months ago because D seemed to not be able to say no to that woman!
@ifer67 Exciting! Hereās hoping it is a great offer & arrives soon. Assuming that would change your Dās decision?
Thanks, @SJ2727! We found a great place and learned yesterday that our rental application was accepted, so weāre all set. Itāll be just a short walk to BHS for our S22, and a short walk to the T for my wife and me to get to work downtown. Really looking forward to living in Brookline.
Wow, @ifer67 Congratulations! IIRC, UMiami rarely accepts from the waitlist. Thatās very exciting!
Congratulations, @Vineyarder Brookline is a fantastic area!
Thanks, @momzilla2D we were extremely surprised knowing they only accepted 10 from last yearās list.
Thank you @Reebtoor Not sure if it will change her mind or not. Even if the money is really good, sheās already decided against another academically rigorous school (Santa Clara U) in favor of Tampa. She suffered a bad concussion her freshman year that has had a lasting cognitive impact. Sheās not sure she wants the added stress of a rigorous school. In her words, āIād rather know I can be at the top of my class instead of always feeling Iām having to keep upā
@ifer67 - Congrats on the WL!
@SDMomof3 @elena13 @BrooklynRye congratulations on decisions!!!
@milgymfam does the hotel have a meeting room or lobby you could use? Regardless, it will be a fun time celebrating! I think the type of gathering you have planned will be perfect and more relaxing.
@MWolf wow, sheās busy!! Enjoy the last performances.
@SJ2727 have fun shopping
@yucca10 did he decide to go?
Good luck with prom!
@Trixy34 D18 is pretty picky and got tired of the dining halls fast. I think she is surviving on grocery trips, chik fil a and uber eats. Iām glad she wonāt have to have a plan next year.
@Vineyarder congrats on the new place!
@ifer67 congrats on the WL!
Apologies to anyone missed, itās hard to keep up!
S19 decided he was committed to his choice so we paid the Lehigh deposit last night. He loved it at the first visit and while he was torn after getting into RITās CS, Lehigh has so much of what he was looking for in a school. My brotherās in Philly so Iām very excited that if heās going far away, family is close by for him if needed.
@drewsmom17 Yes, they finally decided theyāll go to an escape room, then restaurant, then prom and then the after prom party the community is traditionally organizing for all seniors. Iām supposed to pick him up there at 4am tomorrow and Iām not really looking forward to this but I hope they have fun.
Friday DD got a theatre scholarship from her college! We knew that they didnāt have much to offer, and itās been a long time since her audition so we had given up. Itās not big, but itās about the max they said they give, and sheās happy to be recognized for her talent.
She also was awarded a local scholarship that I won when I was a senior so thatās cool. So far she has won about 1/3 of her first year COA and the majority have not been announced yet so Iām hopeful to get a really good chunk of freshman year covered.
@bjscheel
Congrats to your Daughter!!!
