Parents of the HS Class of 2020 (Part 1)

Ok not all out yet. My D is taking AP Chemistry but agree this varies by teacher. She had this teacher for Honors Chemistry and liked her. Time will tell…

Those Physics 1 scores are sobering. When D20 took it and I told her I wanted a 4 or 5, she told me that I should have taken it then. She felt it was really hard. I guess we now wait and see which category she fell in to.

I wonder if those kids with perfect scores get some kid of certificate? They should! A boy from my kids’ high school made a perfect score in Stats a few years ago and I know they notify the teacher. We aren’t any were near the perfect score level with my kiddos but I do hope that these amazing perfect score kids get some major recognition!

@3scoutsmom - Yes, kids who get a perfect (on the long-answer section) in Physics get a special letter, and the school (principal and teacher) also gets letters.

@bigmacbeth - thank you!

@lkg4answers I would just list those under current/previous HS courses.

All AP perfect scores get a letter. Our school has a couple every year.

They are recognized at school board in our district

I shared that tweet about not even attempting the question with D20 and she was horrified. She also said I hope I am one of the 6%!

Wow those AP score results are tough. D20 did take the AP Human Geography test last month and thought it was pretty easy. Maybe she was overly optimistic. It will be interesting to find out how she did.

@hgtvaddict she is probably fine. Those are mostly freshmen.

@VickiSoCal Thanks! Last year was the first time it was offered at D’s school. Interestingly enough, it’s only open to sophomores - seniors, though.

It is the standard honor social studies class for 9th grade at our school.

@lkg4answers You can make a “practice” account with the Common App, as a parent, to see what it’s like.

I just checked mine and it looks like it lets you list up to 15 current-year (senior) courses, and the section for prior year grades was letting me add more rows than that (I don’t know if there’s a limit).

FYI - re: Val/Sal, just asked D what does it take to be Val at her HS and she said at least 24 semesters of Honors/AP classes and at least a 4.2 GPA (weighted). As you would expect, we have dozens and dozens of Vals with a senior class of 450+.

@Octagon My D17 loves Chemistry. She doesn’t like Bio. S20 is totally an opposite. He likes Bio but dislike Chem. Kids are very different

Welcome @myrna97 !!!

Hi all! I just caught up-sounds like lots of anxious kiddos waiting for AP results. We are still in school with finals next week. Luckily S20 took several with the seniors in his classes, but he does have a few to do.

Things are getting very real, though. He met with his counselor today because his schedule just wasn’t working-too many conflicts. They ended with he’ll take AP Environmental Science (easy), AP Mico/Macro, AP gov of some sort that I can’t remember, and Business Calc. Then he will leave campus. He is going to take English through the community college and possibly one other course and work. I had no idea this was the path he was on (last I heard he was going to finish PLTW and take a couple other courses not listed) but due to schedule conflicts this seems like a good option. Many years ago my brother graduated early and took Senior English at his alma mater-guess S20 could do the same, but I’m not ready!!

@socaldad2002 Holy crap, 24 semesters of Honors/AP! That’s 12 years of HS! Our Val/Sals finish in 4!

Time for another joke of the day (JOTD):

Q: Did you hear what the wife said when she bought her husband a refrigerator as a father’s day gift?

A: I can’t wait to see his face light up when he opens it!

I just messaged AP Trevor if ap tests are on a curve or at a set percentage right for the scores. I’m not really expecting an answer; but if you guys know I’d be interested. With everyone saying the AP CS test was easy, and if lots did well and got many/most right, I’d hate for there to be a curve on this!
