Congrats to your S @ShrimpBurrito.
Congrats @ShrimpBurrito! And love those auto-admits for honors!
Congrats @ShrimpBurrito! My DS20 accepted to UGA as well (his first one). What a relief! He was accepted to Honors and got some$$$. Super excited!
Congrats to all with acceptances!
@ShrimpBurrito & @SCgirl1 Congrats! That’s a tough admit. Nicely done!
So we got the big monkey off our back. He is in at UGA!!! Yeah! Really nice to have been accepted to our in-state option and for what it seems like one of his top options if not his top option.
I remember back in October when we were touring Ohio State and he made this comment “this is just an awesome place. I am so confused. How do you really know what school to go to? What if I have all these choices?” . I looked at him and I said “this a process and once it all plays out, the process will choose you. You will be left with just a few choices and it will become very clear where you will be going”
For many of us, the scholarships/merit is truly what dictates the deciding factor. It is very exciting to be able to be accepted and be “wanted”, especially after all the work, energy, and stress that it takes out of all of us. But by the end of the day, we really want to be loved.
Congrats @Boomer1964 ! Definitely something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving!
D20 was admitted to UGA as well! That makes #2 for her. Nice to have heading into the holidays.
Congrats to all on some great acceptances!
Congratulations on the acceptances! Love the good news but want to give a shout out to those with not so good news as well. You also will find your place. @boomer1964 said it well!
Has anyone heard any bad news yet? Seems like I’ve only seen good news. I’m not sure if that’s because schools send out the happy news first or no one shares the bad news?
@NYC2018nyc my daughter received hard rejections from 3 college’s dance programs and soft rejections (they simply never contacted her) from probably 7-10 more.
@NYC2018nyc We’ve received no news yet, but I would really, really like the first decision we hear to be an acceptance.
Thank you and congratulations to all of you as well. Lots of good news out there! We still have a few months to go to see how the puzzle comes together. You just have to be patient. I seems that it always works out.
Just a few years ago, my daughter was accepted to a few universities sometime in October. As the months went by, it became very obvious that she was not going to get any scholarships from these schools. (Hail to Pitt! LOL) Her initial excitement was met with disappointment and loss of interest. Perhaps even questioning the decision to apply to them.
Good planning eventually paid off. Some get into their school of choice and some end up at the 4th school of choice. Sometimes it just works that way. What she did not know at that time was that perhaps her 4th choice should have been her first choice. The reality is that we might never know. We make these choices based on many factors but at the end of the day, there was a reason why she applied to 8 schools. There had to be something about each one of these schools that attracted her to apply. We want options and for reasons beyond our control, sometimes we have left we just a few options. She loves being part of the Buckeye nation.
I already see that this year is turning out to be very similar to the experience we had two years ago. What he had assumed was his “third” choice might not end up being a financial option. His number “fourth” choice might not even be an option. Not sure how he came up with these rankings. LOL! But what seems to be one of his top two choices did come through. So here we are. It is only the fourth inning. Just make sure to have a plan and as it is, it is not too late to even tweak it. It is all going to be alright!
My DD20 wa accepted to UGA and auto admit to Honors! Its her first choice but financially int not mine! Hoping things work out for her but i think she will end up here she belongs!!
@milgymfam Oh that makes sense, I hadn’t really thought about programs with auditions. I guess those decisions are more timely. Good luck to your daughter and I hope she gets choices she’s happy with.
I was wondering if anyone has any inside information on how Collegeboard uses our kids’ information? I have been surprised how much information seems to have been relayed to colleges about my D20… and in ruling out other sources, it seems clear that CollegeBoard is the source. She just got a letter with an offer of a $27K scholarship (per year!) if she will just apply to the college. This is just one example; her SAT score is definitely what led to this. Thoughts?
@momof3co It’s my understanding (word or mouth) that CB does sell lists of student information, but not exactly what the SAT score was. What I was told is that schools can ask for a ‘range of scores’. I do not know how small the range can be, or if they will satisfy other queries. They definitely sell your info, though. Similar to the discussion re: the schools on the dashboard in the Common App earlier in this thread, your student probably approved the sharing of information at some point.
My daughter was accepted to Indiana today! So happy to have two yes’s already. Now we wait for the big news on Dec 10th.
D20 was accepted tonight to Binghamton. So far she has two acceptances (Bing and Buffalo), but the tough admits are still to come. For the moment, though, she is thrilled to have gotten her first two acceptances, and especially Bing. Still have to see how the money works out.
