Parents of the HS Class of 2020 (Part 1)

We are OOS and got the same letter today. Since it’s are only admittance it’s on the top of our list.

@Nicki20 So, it’s on the bottom of your list too! :neutral:

Congrats!

@bigmacbeth @Nicki20
What a night here! Congratulations to you both!

thank you everyone for the congratulations! We are so proud of him, and relieved. I am looking forward to seeing where everyone else’s children will wind up. :slight_smile:

@mamabear2001 Big congrats! That is amazing.

@bigmacbeth @Nicki20 Congrats on the $$$! Awesome news.

This is very exciting hearing everyone’s news.

I second the thank you for congratulations. My wife and daughter are very excited. I’m sort of the Debbie downer of all this. While happy it’s still not for us cheaper than the in state option which will we will get the response from next week.

I too would like to congratulate the others who have gotten positive responses and possibly decided on their future colleges.

Warmest congratulations to everyone with the good news! So happy for you guys!

@Nicki20 LOL. What is your D20’s major? Is UIUC higher on her list? I’m 0-2 getting my kids to apply in-state to UIUC, but it was kind of a no-brainer this time since D20 wants nursing.

@makemesmart same thing here…a couple on the list that are a reach for every applicant. Not really expecting to get in at all. And like yours, she is the youngest in the class. I am hoping she will stay in state, and that seems most likely. And most honors you can apply after a semester or two at the college (at least the ones I know of).

Anyone else’s DC trying to decide where, if anywhere, to apply ED2?

Her ED 1 school is a reach, and she is expecting a deferral at best. It is her clear first choice, so it wasn’t a difficult decision at all for her to apply ED there.

I think the agony regarding ED2 is that they are all schools that she may have a shot at, so deciding to pull the trigger on ED2 makes it real because of the commitment. She is trying to decide among 3 schools, all of which she really liked. I advised her that if she’s that undecided, she may just want to apply RD to all 3 with the understanding that this will mean she may not get into ANY of them. If that is the case, she will most likely attend one of the state schools: UF (won’t have a decision until end of Feb.), FSU (won’t have a decision until Jan.), UCF (in w/$) or USF (in w/$).

Oh what a tangled web we weave. :slight_smile:

Congratulations @MamaBear2001 ! That is wonderful news!!

Congratulations to others with good news as well!

No ED1 or 2 here. The merit hunt is higher priority. Good luck to all expecting answers this month.

bigmacbeth- Psychology. Minnesota is higher on her list. Although after visiting UIUC it got higher. Her major there I think may be easier to get in than nursing.

No ED here, either. Having both ED1 and ED2 options, in addition to everything else, sounds crazy-making! Best of luck to all those who are going down that path!

No ED here. DS did just add one more school to his list, applying RD to Indiana. Since he’s in with $ at Earlham, I suggested we might as well visit more than one place if we end up flying out there. Whether we do or not depends on how other EA decisions pan out.

@AlwaysLearn Yep, we are also struggling an EDII option in case of deferred or rejected from EDI college. The issue for D20 is that she will only have 2 weeks between an ED decision (mid Dec) and the EDII deadline of January 1 and we would want to visit the EDII college, which we haven’t yet, before submitting the app.

I have a feeling she won’t do EDII anywhere but we will see how strongly she feels about fit there?

Kid is not struggling at ALL with the idea of an ED2 school. :smile: It was a very close second to the ED1 school, so if the ED1 school says no, the ED2 application is ready to go (along with the rest of the RD apps).

No ED here. We are full pay, so hoping for some good merit options. I can’t see committing to probably pay full price when other schools are likely to offer merit aid.

My D would consider ED2 to her second favorite school if she’s rejected during ED1. The big question will be what to do if she’s deferred. I don’t know if she’d be ready to give up on her first choice if a deferral came, though I know that the odds would not be in her favor for a later acceptance.

ED2 is ready to go pending decision of the EA school.

@MamaBear2001 Congratulations!! That’s amazing!

@Nicki20 @bigmacbeth Congrats on the great scholarships!
