Thanks! I’m so scared to ask my son (he doesn’t like talking abt testing in general) and I heard him typing till 11:45 and now it has stopped ?
Ha! Apush went successfully for my son. He said he did ok.
Apush had a successful upload. I need a drink!
My S gave me a thumbs up! Said he liked his prompt and wrote a lot. No tech issues. Now on to Computer Science in just a little bit!
@jeneric – oh, can we start happy hour early b/c of our kids’ AP tests? I like the way you’re thinking!
Successful APUSH upload here too.
Wasn’t thrilled with her prompt and said other kids she knows had a prompt about slavery which would have been “way easier” but she’s glad it’s over and thinks she did ok.
@AlmostThere2018 It’s 5 o’clock somewhere! D literally yelled out yes after she read the prompt. It was not a slavery one.
So glad to be done with the APUSH Exam! D21 loves American history and she put a lot of pressure on herself preparing for this. I was so worried that her essay wouldn’t upload, but everything went smoothly. She feels a bit cheated out of getting to sit for the “real” exam, but she liked her prompt (Progressive Era).
My heart goes out to all the kids who had trouble uploading during AP’s. I feel like they should get an extra point on their retakes for pain and suffering and perseverance!
Good upload for APUSH here also, but sounds like my son had a difficult question, too much for 45 mins. But, I think we were both relieved to have no tech issues, though.
I think in another thread I stated that I was thinking of calling the College Board back to make a record of my son’s issue by identifying him and his ID number. I’m not going to bother at this point. My son filled out the form to retake the Physics test if that’s what it comes down to; I think he’s calmed down from the experience of yesterday.
Not to diminish the kids’ and parents’ stress and frustration over these online tests, but I’m looking at it now as a little blip in the grand scheme of things. This virus has sent everything into a tailspin, so when the tech issues arise, it’s just one more disappointment the virus has created. As a parent, I feel very out of control with everything that’s been happening, starting with the unknown over these online AP tests!
Anyway, my son is done, except for the Physics retake, if that happens, so I wish good luck to the students who have more tests to take next week.
I think we all are feeling very happy and relieved abt the successful upload than their content in the exam, isn’t it? ?
@MorseLewis I agree. This is such a little thing. I mean really. D21 came downstairs and told us everything went well and S19 said “that’s great I guess but life is such a joke right now”. At least D21 felt fine about it and was able to submit so we didn’t see a big breakdown. 70 and sunny here and she’s off to play tennis with a friend.
APUSH exam done here, too. S21 said he wrote a paper about the DBQ last year (what? where?) and thought he did alright. I’m just glad it’s over. It was pouring for most of the time when he wrote it, and I was scared he would have problems submitting it (we don’t have the best internet service provider in our town).
@homerdog same here, our D19 says ‘hello, I’m doing college courses online and giving midterms and finals and here you are too concerned for his (S21) one AP today’ ?
Successful APUSH upload here too - literally a topic her teacher said College Board might throw at them, so she was very confident in her end product. Definitely needed after that hard Chem exam yesterday.
No internet issues with my husband’s concurrent webinar either. Whew.
The internet/upload part of these tests is stressing me out. Just English and Spanish left (and regular finals, but that doesn’t involve this upload drama)
AP History completed with no issues
Congrats to all the APUSH’ers who can – I hope – relax a bit this weekend! It’s funny because our kids take APUSH in 10th grade, but seems like for most, it’s a junior year class! I wish they waited another year here, since it is such a beast in most schools. Fortunately, AP Gov was completed a few days ago with a weird prompt, but without any technical difficulties.
@dadof4kids we were also impressed by the Bates session, which we did earlier this week. Why don’t they all start with exactly that – “here’s what’s unique about us,” and then move on to the more general info? Surely most people looking at an LAC know what’s good about an LAC? D added Bates to her list as well.
Good to hear so many positive uploads for APUSH! Does anyone think CB has been able to improve the upload process based on earlier failures or is this all a fortunate coincidence? I’m hoping that D has success for her 2 tests next week.
Successful APUSH upload here. S says he got a prompt about the progressive era, which he knew a lot about so he thinks it went really well.
I wonder how many people read the APUSH prompt, or looked at the calc problems, and decided to have “technical problems” and hope for something more in their wheelhouse for the retake.
I’m not suggesting that the majority of kids with technical issues did this. In fact, I assume that the vast majority of people having technical issues are really having the issues. I’m just pointing out another flaw in the way these tests are being done this year. Since there is such a narrow focus, if you get a bad question odds are you will get a better one next time.
I will admit I had a bad attitude about and a bias against standardized tests even before COVID. So I may be looking for problems. But it isn’t really that hard to find them. This is shooting fish in a barrel.
FYI, even if D21 got a horrible prompt she would still just submit. Everyone in this house desperately wants this semester and everything about it to be in the rearview mirror.
I think for the math and science exams students could do their work free-hand on paper and then upload pictures of their work which is where the troubles came in. For APUSH today they just had to cut and paste their essay into the box and hit submit. At least that’s what my S told me!
Phew, successful upload for APUSH here also…glad to see so many others saying the same.
S21 said he didn’t love the prompt but thinks he did okay…feels pretty sure he at least got a 3 with a chance at higher. His was apparently about Manifest Destiny. Before the exam, I asked him what time period/topic he would most like to see, and he said The Progressive Era @3SailAway and @Aguadecoco …oh well. I think he’d likely have preferred whatever the slavery question was, too. But it also could have been worse, and I’m just so glad it’s done.
He still has one class he’s working on to finish up the year, but he has some flexibility with deadlines for it, so I told him to take some time completely off before he gets back to work. He studied a lot for this test - he really gets and enjoys the history itself but struggles with writing, so having the whole test be one essay was looking pretty problematic a month ago. He wrote probably 8-10 DBQs as practice over the last few weeks…that’s quite a lot for a kid who hates and struggles with writing as much as he does, so I’m really hoping he gets a 4, but I’m also just so glad it’s over. I said that already. But I mean it. Think I’ll join @AlmostThere2018 and @jeneric for a drink. ?
