The 92nd St Y offers short-term rooms that might work for your daughter. https://www.92ny.org/community/residence
Iāll give you some more housing options as Iāve been active in the NYC summer rental market for 4 of the last 5 summers.

Itās important to know if there is a kitchen/kitchenette in the unit. If not, eating out all the time is expensive (Captain Obvious here!) Some places you can rent a fridge, so at least one could keep leftovers and/or snacks. No kitchen/kitchenette has been a deal killer for us.
-
At NYU, those who rent a room can get a meal plan (a meal plan is actually required for some of the dorms.)
-
Some places, like EHS, have community kitchens so it is an option to cook if one is so motivated.

This Bridge Suites building was one of our final options this summer, and the price for a studio with full kitchen was $3,100/mo, so similar to the 92nd Y above, but with a kitchen. And IMO a better location (although that might depend on where a person is working, etc.) https://www.bridgesuites.com/

Heritage Collection has a number of buildings. Expensive, but clean and well run. S21 is in one of their buildings this summer. They have a lot of rules though, including for guests, and one must pay if a significant other or friend comes to visit and wants to stay in the apt. I get they are trying to be safe but itās costing us more $! Student Housing - Heritage Collection New York

Hereās the EHS link again, they have a number of locations too. https://www.studenthousing.org/

D19 stayed at this place in summer 2021, so still some covid impact: https://executiveplazanyc.com/ She didnāt love the location. That summer we paid $3500/mo for a one bedroom w/full kitchen. I called them for availability this summer (In april.) One bedrooms were sold out. They had one studio leftā¦for $6,200 month. After catching my breath, I said thanks, but thatās not going to happen.

New School has summer housing, but less than NYU, so I assume it goes quickly: Summer Housing | The New School
Donāt hesitate to PM me if and when that makes sense!
So many budget friendly options to sublet from NYC college students for the summer - both my kids (Class ā21HS) have done this in the city - paid between $1100 and $1400 for a furnished bedroom in an apartment with other students. They reached out to friends at Columbia and NYU for connections and had no issues. One summer sublet came with a cat - so that was a hit and all had air con - a must. They met new people (all in similar situation) and very positive for both my kids.
Last summer one sublet in LA when she had an internship there - same strategy and reached out to kids at UCLA and USC - paid $2000 a month in Echo Park (car required in LA) and shared with 2 guys interning with the Dodgers - all worked out well too. The cost of dorm housing and frat rentals out of UCLA were very expensive and dumpy.
Thanks, @gotham_mom, @Mwfan1921, @coffeeat3 for the leads!
Yes but those dorm rooms are pricey for summer!
Another option is Fashion Institute Of Technology. Several dorms across the city. Not as popular as NYU. Not cheap. Daughter paid $4200 for 10-weeks or some such. Shared and had a kitchen.
Checking in on our 2021s, love seeing all the updates! After an internship abroad this summer, D21 moved away to start graduate school at an ivy. She already had a good amount of funding/TAship and just got a small additional fellowship. She misses Duke; her college friends are scattered all over though most are East-coast corridor, various grad/professional programs or jobs, everyone seems settled.
My daughter, a 2021 grad, finished at UMD College Park in May 2025 as a Life Science Scholar. She started on the Pre-Health track but realized by sophomore year that Health wasnāt for her. She initially dropped OCHEM and Anatomy 1, then retook both over the summers after freshman/sophomore years, earning B-minuses the second time.
She stayed in her Science major, completing the required STEM classes efficiently with strategic electives, and added a PreLaw minor. By the end of junior year, she was done with all the āweederā courses.
The PreLaw internship was the most stressful part of the minor, she secured it late May 2024, had a three-hour daily commute took the internship class concurrently. She also studied for the LSAT, joined a two-week summer vacation with her boyfriendās family, and worked on law school applicationsāall at once. Somehow, she pulled it off.
She took the LSAT once, applied ED to her top choice (UMD Carey), and was accepted right before Thanksgiving. As a current 1L, she loves the peer group, feels like she belongs, and is confident about job prospects, especially in Health Care Law.
Wow, what an impressive and inspiring journey. I love how she navigated challenges, balanced so much at once, and still achieved her goal with ED acceptance to UMD Carey. My daughter also graduated in 2021 and attended UMD. Maybe they even knew each other or took some of the same STEM classes. Congratulations to you both!
Thank you for the sweet message. Not all college success stories are linear so thatās why I wanted to post. There were dark days when she dropped classes and took hits to GPA with these weeders. Her story was very messy but she figured it out and Iām so happy for her.
Congratulations to your daughter. Good luck with med school applications! Getting through premed at UMD isnāt for the faint of heart. If she ends up at UMD medical school and you need help with stuff related to living in Baltimore, please reach out. We were very picky about her apartment complex etc.
