Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 1)

D24 is our only and it is starting to hit everyone that we’re approaching the end and we want to enjoy the right. Daughter has been to Swift, Billy Joel & Stevie Nicks, Arctic Monkeys, Goo Dolls and Phoebe Bridgers and has tickets to upcoming shows. So glad to see her have a “thing”.

I’m surprising my D with a trip to Disneyland for Christmas. We haven’t been for years, we thought it would be fun to do a last hurrah next summer. Kinda a farewell to childhood thing …:smiling_face_with_tear:

ETA she’s also getting Olivia Rodrigo tickets for her and a friend , which she may be happier with lol

@OregonMom2024 that is awesome. I am going to make secret reservations for tomorrow at D24s favorite restaurant in Georgetown. I will cancel with an undesirable outcome.

Enjoy Mickey and I hope your daughter enjoys the concert.

SAME. D24 is our only one… and we are determined to LIVE THIS YEAR UP with her!! So far this year Taylor, SZA, Beyonce, Las Vegas for Bruno Mars & Katy Perry…will do Adele in March, finally letting her go to Coachella :flushed: and another Taylor (she won’t know about until Graduation)! We are having SO much fun! I feel like she’s finally embracing this is our last “hoorah”… not as many annoyed with each other moments while out/traveling :joy:

Wow, you all hit all the big ones. I would love Bruno in Vegas. Would also like U2 in Vegas. I was able to go to a couple of the old man rap concerts. 50 cent and Wu Tang clan. Great for nostalgia but past their prime. re Coachella that is not my thing but cool for the kids. My daughter has gone to a couple of smaller music festivals. I may spring and scalp Noah Kahan at Fenway as a surprise congrats.

No dinner (she has a school show) BUT I ordered an ice cream cake for tomorrow and was like… what do I put on it? What if it’s a rejection? I settled on “We are so proud of you!”

We are Northern CA, in the East Bay. After a realistic conversation about finances, my DS applied to 4 CSU’s (Fullerton, San Diego, Sac State & SF State) Received acceptance to Sac State the other day. I think San Diego is a reach due to his GPA (CSU GPA 3.68) and not sure about Fullerton. I think he will have no issue getting into SF State. Political Science Major.

His dream was Georgetown, but though he a good student with lots of outside accomplishments, he is not a good test taker, so no SAT for him, and only a unweighted 3.61 GPA. Georgetown would have been a HUGE Reach school for him.

He is applying to Oregon State just to see if that will be an option, but I do not know what their acceptances are like. He also could end up at the local CC before transferring due to finances.

We will pay what we can each year, but he will be assuming debt if he chooses to go to live away at school as we do not qualify for any NEED Aid. He is also more than welcome to live at home after college graduation to pay dedicate his salary to paying down/off that debt. So goal is CSU! We will reassess after the acceptances/declines come in.

I think he has a good chance at Oregon State.

we heard back from Oregon State pretty quickly, and they are a WUE school which may be helpful on the money front.

Should be competitive for OSU. My friends D is there now, studying poli sci and has been able to do really cool stuff even as a freshman (two trips to DC , all expenses paid).

Thrilled to report that we are done.
S got in to Northeastern Boston Campus!
He has loved NEU from the first time he visited and could see himself there.

Thank you all for your support, humor and guidance! I am rooting for you all. May you all be blessed with great news.

Congrats. I just saw that NU came out.

Congrats!!

I think it is so insane that the top colleges in the richest country do this insane stuff to artificially look better than other colleges and the kids have to go through so much pressure for the college admission.

Wow! Congrats! That is a great University in a great place!
But please stay active in CC until we all get through this tough time!!

Totally agree. Most of the top schools don’t pull the same scam Chicago does, but they do spend millions unnecessarily shilling for applications they don’t need while setting false expectations to the victims of their marketing.
