But then she can’t complain about him here anymore :rofl:

Congratulations!! We’re still banging them out here. One more submitted yesterday and 4 to go. The 15th can’t come soon enough (though hoping it’ll be sooner). Best of luck to your daughter!!

S24 is still making progress on many as opposed to finishing any, which is a little nerve wracking, but I think it works for him. And I have cocktails . . . .

I’m also a little teary eyed as I am watching his Vassar Your Space develop. These personal things really get to me. And I have cocktails . . . .

I may be out of the loop, but what is the Vassar Your Space?

This is true.

The odds are very low that he’d even read CC. He’d rather do anything else than read a message board. :joy:

It is an optional, open-ended supplement:

https://www.vassar.edu/admission/apply/requirements/

Your Space

Your Space is your opportunity to allow the Committee on Admission to learn something about you that you have not addressed in another section of the application. For example, in the past, applicants have shared poetry, short stories, cartoons, digital images of art projects, photography, and collages, and/or links to videos, and short films. It is your space, so if you choose to complete it, send something that is a reflection of you! Your Space is entirely optional.

Just mention to him that the listener email you wrote was read and discussed on Thursday’s episode of Your College Bound Kid — that should shut him up. I heard it and knew it was you! Seriously, you have rocked this whole process guiding your daughter through college admissions, and he should be very grateful!!

This reminds me of the Rice Box, which was the only part of the application process that D24 actually enjoyed. I think it’s a neat idea that more schools should do.

If nothing else it seems really smart for just that reason. I know my S24 has also viewed this as a welcome break from the normal supplemental essay grind, and I think it has really helped Vassar stand out in his mind.

I agree. D24 felt like Rice was even more of a “fit” for her because they seemed to be interested in the nonacadmeic/ artsy/ creative / interesting side of applicants with this small addition. And it helped to finish her application on a fun, positive note.

I also thought it was sbinaz on YCBK! I gave a little cheer!

I sympathize with all the students feverishly filling out last minute applications over the break. Know that the effort will pay off. For the parents out there, hang in there, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. Enjoy this time we have with them before they embark on the next stage of their lives.

My middle child just graduated college still doesn’t drive. He got his licenses over COVID times but never needed to wanted to drive at school. He enjoys a walk.

D24 submitted a few more apps over the past few days and is making progress on the rest. Can’t wait to see where she ultimately ends up, but know that the rest of Senior year will be over in a blink. I guess knowing that it is about to be 2024 makes it that more real that my “baby” is going to leave the nest soon.

D24 went the other way on RD college applications, and decided to just be done (after adding a single quick application to a non-portfolio based place, bringing her total applied to 9).

She has 2-3 more honors college/scholarship applications to do by mid-January, but knowing her they will be submitted right before the deadline. We deliberately did not travel for the holidays to leave time/space for her RD applications, but it ended up being a time for some projects and needed rest for her.

I have a question for those whose kids do not drive, or who started driving later…how do they manage it? D24 put 7000 miles on the car in the fall driving to school and activities. We joke that every single thing we do is 25 minutes away (suburbs problem).

We live in the city so when DS is/was at home, he could take the bus, train, taxis, Lyfts, walk . . . No car needed. I do drive him to and from team practice and I enjoy it. He’s a captured audience, so he has to talk with me. And this old, white lady knows lots about rap music.

Who said we did!?

Seriously, I ran out buying ME a car for her, the moment she had that piece of paper.

Couldn’t wait not to do early drop offs, after school pickups, shuttling to friends meets…

Can we retract test score after submission? Just found out one school doesn’t super score putting us under the 25

Teaching both my kids to drive was one of my very least favorite and most terrifying parts of parenting. The only thing that got me in the car was the incentive to be done with chauffeuring duties. D22 wanted to practice any chance she got. She was an amazing driver well before her 16th birthday. I broke my right ankle right when she got her license and so she ended up being my chauffeur 2 months. D24 had no desire to practice but boy did she want the freedom a license would give her. She got serious about practicing about a month before her birthday. She barely passed her driving test . I was very nervous when she went out on her own but she knew she had much to learn and is therefore very cautious and careful. I think she now may be the best driver in the family. She had a job in the city last Summer and that gave her a ton of of freeway experience. I now can’t imagine how we ever managed without both of them being able to get themselves places without me.
