Thank you He’s very skeptical, no one has ever gotten in from our school, the guidance counselor apparently told him this already.
Good luck to him.
So, we are down to two applications left to go - one for 1/10 and the other 1/15. I am going to heave a big sigh of relief once this part is over. Good luck to anyone whose kiddos are banging out those last applications!
My daughter’s Val with 10 or 11 ACTs and 36 ACT applied to 16 top 20 and is 0 for. She goes do UTK. But other kids are at Vandy and others. Gpa and test are part, but not all of the consideration set. There’s many of those kids.
College admissions has become ridiculous lately. I feel bad for a kid we know that has perfect grades and SAT, holds down a job, has leadership roles, volunteers and gets rejected from their safety schools.
This is actually reassuring in a way. Because it shows that there is a holistic aspect. That ecs and essays do matter. The kid who didn’t get in thinks his essays were horrible, he didn’t give them proper attention and even wrote something general for the why us type. Also I think his other ECs might’ve been random, no spike for sure I know that.
tsnba–that’s exactly why I think of those schools as “lottery schools,” and am glad my child doesn’t quite qualify with her stats. Actually, I think of schools in the top 40 as lottery schools–it’s only once you get somewhere below 40 that a significant number of people with the school’s average profile and up get in. But you know that already.
Likely misread the safety. People label things differently. For some schools, wealth matters too.
haha glad you had a canine companion - those are sometimes the best!
Parmesan and Herb sounds good for sure.
We were gifted a set of “exotic salts” from neighbors for Christmas - may be another way to spice up the popcorn game.
Good luck to your son and his applications!!
For those that have gotten in to complete the FAFSA, what is the secret? I have the page up and I keep checking back like I am trying to get Taylor Swift tickets on Ticketmaster but the Start New Form button is still not enabled.
It is only open for certain hours -
On Saturday, Jan. 6., the form is expected to be live from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET and 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Sunday.
S24 and I were able to complete it during one of their open windows with no problems. However I think the IRS link is down, so this weekend might not be the best time to fill out the form.
During the week they are expected to be open between 8am-8pm EST. Hours will be posted on the website. Good luck.
Edit to add: Right now it is supposed to be open, but I just checked and it is not available. So I guess those hours are not really very useful.
He may very well make the history by becoming the first person to get in! Ask him to show his personality well and tell him good luck from CC community.
Awwww thank you! We do love this community!
D24 also has one and is the first from school to even apply there; i think she was expecting a rest from it all until results come in to be honest!
I can’t get in either. Where did you see those hours?
I did get one of my twins’ form submitted yesterday during business hours, and now trying to do the other one. I’m waiting to do mine until the IRS info is linked so didn’t even try.
I bought a hot sauces of the world type sampler crate at Costco thinking it would be good for random white elephant or an unexpected gift exchange, but never ended up needing it. Now I am wondering if I should crack into it myself and subject my popcorn to it. retroactively adds a New Year’s resolution to find a new favorite hot sauce
On D24 front, she has decided that her spring schedule is way too light and wants to take 2 additional classes. I reminded her that the light schedule was by design, that a lot of seniors experience senioritis and welcome a bit of a break their last semester in high school.
I would not be surprised if she ends up in an oh !! moment sometime during the semester (it seems to happen every semester), but I decided to just trust her and not argue about it. So she is taking 18 college credits and AP Lit. She does not need the 2 extra classes for anything in particular (the rest are graduation requirements for high school and/or her AA and/or “mental health”<==something art related).
This thread has opened my mind to hot sauces. I’m going to start in the regular grocery store–I bet Trader Joe’s has a bunch of hot sauces too.
Link please? Looking for an aeronautics travel program for S36, he already a space cadet might as well start early
Mine too. Lol. At least it’s good interview experience. Good luck to your daughter!
