Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 1)

We just went through this with my D. We ended up going to Macy’s and finding suits there. She was interviewing for consulting internships, so we were looking for something classic/conservative. And had a hard time finding that anywhere else at the local malls.

We have ordered a lot of audition outfits from Amazon. Because the local stores just don’t really have what she’s looking for and Amazons return policy is good

Macy’s was our go to several years ago. We actually found a few things at Kohl’s too but those were more for basic business wear not interviews.

My D22 is at NAU and has only had one online class and it was by choice. IMO NAU is the best college choice in Az. It just doesn’t have a strong theater department in my D24 really wants to go out of state

Some thoughts from the above conversation. Since my D 24 has applied to so many schools, we have not gone to visit any. Since she has to be both academically and artistically accepted , she did not want to get her heart set on any school in particular. We told her she could pick the top three to visit after she receives her decisions. So she doesn’t really have a front runner.
I have been surprised by that merit scholarships she has been offered. She has around a 3.5 GPA and a few dual enrollment classes but no AP. She has received a scholarship from mostly every school she has applied to. Many of them have been private, so I’m thinking that might be why. Because they will still be expensive if she does decide to go there.

For @BDZMom’s reference: the commonly used acronym is simply HYPSM.

My daughter is the same ad we had luck with Ann Taylor. They have petites and I wasxable to get her an appropriate pants suit as well as just dress pants and a blouse.

Unfortunately pretty much every juniors dress is too short when you are tall!

Try banana republic, my D wasn’t too horrified by those and she’s 5-10

Trust me I understand, my daughter is almost 6 ft tall! We’ve had pretty good luck with Kate Spade.

Thank you !

Thank you!

I wish there was some way to keep everything private. Five kids up for a full-ride scholars program in S24’s small school. He got a portal update with answer but he’s sitting in court room for mock trial so can’t look. Meanwhile kid who got into Stanford EA texts him he got it and asking him. I guess we likely have our answer before even opening. Sigh.

I hope I wasn’t rude to you. I didn’t mean to be. I am just imagining how a financial aid officer might react if a student said “College X offered me this much money.” I would expect them to say “Well, then go there!”

Oh I didn’t take your question as rude at all. I just meant that I hope my daughter wasn’t rude! She was a teenager, and I wasn’t there at the time so who really knows. But I hope she handled it with some finesse. In any case, whatever she said, it worked.

ETA: At the time, I remember being a bit annoyed because I would have preferred if she had waited for me to talk her through it or get on a conference call with her and the office (she was at boarding school at the time), but it seemed to work out.

Ann Taylor has some decent suiting and it comes in petites. Some separates from there might work.

Also, for other parents of girls who need more professional outfits, Everlane has nice separates - very good quality and a reasonable price. Quince is another one to check out. Both also have great, real leather totes for an outstanding price (for we adults).

My son is likely going the PhD route (things may change, but this is the current plan). Not expected to be a hugely lucrative career, but something v meaningful to him. He does have some expensive tastes, though. So we will see! :joy:
