We’ve gotten 3 kids into college over the last 5 years. I’ve done that 6-10 college spring break trip 4 times in that span (spring 2020 only break since 2019, thanks Covid!).
Hugs to you; I am having a lot more fun planning a trip for two adults who know what they want…with dining plans that don’t include college dining halls.
We’ve been doing a lot of new-for-us cooking. My wife’s birthday was this last Saturday, and we did a slow-cooked wild boar leg that drove our dog completely insane. And then she apparently grew a couple inches, because I am pretty sure that gravy boat was in a counter spot she had never been able to reach before. So now she is snoozing with dried wild boar gravy basically everywhere on her body she can’t reach to lick . . . (to be clear, this is the dog, not my wife).
The college process reminded me a lot of those early baby/childhood years with closely spaced children. Sooooo much going on all packed together…and then that lovely moment when they were all finally in full day school!
Seriously not sure how I’ll fill the time once this is over. Listening to podcasts and following this thread consumes most of my free time! Maybe I’ll actually meet my book-reading goal next year.
No doldrums for me thanks to a huge screwup by my boss that will consume most of my free time for two weeks! Well, I’ll make sure to keep following this thread no matter how late I might stay up doing whoknowswhat.
Slow Horses on Apple TV is a solid 3 season, 6 episodes each, watch that got us through the last couple of weeks. Now waiting for Drive to Survive to come out on Friday
Is this show based on the book by James Clavell? Recalling 30 years ago when I read it, I’ve never hated a book so much in my life. Approximately 1,500 pages in which nothing happened. The last two pages summarized a vast amount of action. Then, I read the rest of the Asian series and found them all much improved over the first book.
I remember loving it too. I found a copy recently but it’s was one of those pocket editions where the print is so small and dense I couldn’t deal. Not to mention my perfect eye sight has gone down the drain in the last two years. So far down that I can barely read my phone without the stupid reading glasses that I still haven’t learned to keep on me at all times.
Edit: I went through a big Clavell period a long time ago. I don’t remember having a problem with Shogun, but I do think I liked the Struan novels better. But regardless I am looking forward to the show.
As you’re in the doldrums, I will venture in to say thank you! I have been lurking, with a student in the class of 2025. I’ve enjoyed reading about your journeys and learned much along the way. I am rooting for your students and hope they end up in a school they love!
Reporting in briefly to say that today’s visit to Austin College went really well. I think it’ll be THE place D24 will go. She asked for TWO college sweatshirts at the bookstore today. Will report more tomorrow. Very tired and we have a really early flight home tomorrow am.
Hello All! Been lurking for awhile so thought I would introduce myself. D24 has heard back from ED school (deferred) and EA schools (all 3 accepted) now in the long wait for the RD schools. March is going to be a long month! Appreciate all the stories and advice on this board and wishing everyone’s kiddos best of luck with the remainder of the process!
Got home last night from a trip to tour UGA, Clemson, and South Carolina and loved the time with S24. And I think maybe, just maybe, he has found THE ONE. (I will post on the college visit thread later today) We hear from UF this Friday, but I’m not sure if that will change anything. UGA and TCU are still in the running, but he absolutely loved South Carolina and their honors college is an incredible opportunity. Hopefully he can get over his decision paralysis and start getting fired up about the Gamecocks
