Yeah - I don’t know what that game is - but they couldn’t come up with a better name?
It’s a pretty common Sr tradition/game, though last year they changed the name to Senior Knock out or something of the sort. Basically you get assigned a target and you get them out by getting them wet. In our case it’s outdoors/on campus only, teams need to have time to get off the bus, not allowed during school wide meetings, etc.
When younger S went to college, his roommate talked about that game at their school. We couldn’t believe it. At our high school, we already have a big problem with weapons and gangs. No way could that ever be considered here.
I know we have talked about this upthread, but D24’s school calls it Splash and they use water bottles. I think it’s happening this week…they did a teaser for it on social media. Still fun, but less chance the police will get involved!
Ours has an app and everything, they can see their targets on the map real time and can get them anywhere except for inside school doors or during a game/practice. Several have been caught in baggage claim at the airport after returning from college trips. It’s been fun
That’s definitely better, but I still don’t see it happening at our school. Every day is a struggle to make it without serious fights breaking out.
We scheduled a physical for D24 the day after graduation. The college she’s attending has a couple of medical forms that the PCP has to fill out and sign. And I want this all done & submitted before she leaves for the never-ending summer of trips.
I feel like Lake County, IL runs their game very differently that our area does. Every year, we do have a few people who post in neighborhood groups/nextdoor about groups of teens lurking in around, but that can be headed off by seniors (or their parents) giving a heads up in those groups.
Wow. I grew up in Lake County
You’re smart to get on it so quickly. I would recommend everyone take a look at their kids’ schools’ medical forms early on, D23 needed some vaccinations that she hadn’t had (she’d had one kind of Meningitis vaccine and needed another) and she also had to have a TB test that we had to schedule.
“Vibe” plays a vital role.
Last Spring and Summer, we visited many campuses and a few simply had the wrong “vibe” and they dropped off the list. A couple rose up the list because of the “vibe” all other things being equal. One school - with the lowest acceptance rate but highest out-of-pocket cost (no merit aid) was dropped after admitted students day. Reason: bad vibe.
And serendipity pointed us into directions that we would not have considered a year ago and now a couple of them are still in the running.
And that is completely the right mindset, IMO. You get one life.
So close to the decision.
Warning: I’m venting and not adding anything new or insightful here. . . . But, even viewed in the most positive and enthusiastic light, FAFSA remains an enormous, flaming turd of increasingly epic proportions. How can such an important website have so many major glitches that take so long to fix? That’s a rhetorical question because I don’t care about the “how” or “why”; I only care about the “when.”
I’m sure there’s a constructive discussion about FAFSA’s problems somewhere on CC. But I just needed to have myself a little, unconstructive rant among sympathetic folk. /end rant/
Yes I saw that today. Oregon requires meningitis B, so she’s up to date but it looks like NY requires meningitis A. Anyone know about this? I sent in her records but I’m wondering if they will accept them without meningitis A.
We had to get whichever one she didn’t have I was surprised at the TB test too, Washington has never required one for anything.
I’m right there with you. I consider the whole thing an IT/web application go live of epic proportions. It’s completely unacceptable that students are left hanging in the lurch for this long.
Good to know thanks!
that’s the gooberment for ya. ugh
Our school has a running list of who has committed where, and the list is so sparse this year compared to any other year.
Most schools require A but a good number also requires B. DS got A back before he started BS. He took his first course of the B during Spring Break this year. When he’s home from BS in June, he’ll do the 2nd course. Not sure if he needs a 3rd, we’ll have to ask our family doctor about that one. Even if B is not required, it’s always good to get both flavors with communal living.
We got our SAI on Saturday. Submitted 1/6, and got the useful info on 4/13. And we’re some of the lucky ones it actually worked for. Dumpster fire.
