My son who got into UVA, UGA and UF among others would happily trade for a UNC acceptance.
There should be a swap market. My UNC for your UVA? Sure!
I guess the colleges might not love that idea.
Kids are overwhelmingly happy at UNC, itâs a good life balance, great job market, very educated area with lots of colleges and the research triangle, and there is something special about Carolina blue skies that boosts the mood. đ©”
Because we drove DS2022 to his college (not fly), we packed a lot.
I packed a HUGE tub of what I call CVS-store:
- just about everything that you can find at CVS
Because when youâre not feeling good/bleeding, you donât want to go out to the nearest CVS. Just look in your CVS-tub.
His roommates appreciated the tub also.
This!
We stuck to the basics, but youâd be surprised how many kids donât have a bandaid.
Pro tip: send your kid with a tool box. It comes in handy more often than youâd think and its an excellent way to meet other students in your dorm.
This is going to sound far-fetched, but me being a grad student with tools, and who knew how to use them, was a big selling point for my wife.
Funny I have already started an Amazon list with this exact idea. He gets sick every fall/winter and want to make sure he has the essentials so he does not have to go out for stuff. I am also a nurse so of course want him to be prepared since I canât take care of him
My husband and son gave me a weird look when I gave him a tool kit for the holidays this year and said trust me, you will be glad you have this. Glad to hear I am not crazy.
My D22 is known on her floor as the go to girl, if youâre feeling sick because of the stockpile we sent her.
S21 has all of the pills and his entire class goes to him for any issue and if he is not sure I get a text with all of the symptoms. Ha!!
this is an awesome idea. I am totally going to do this.
definitely adding that to the Amazon list!
We used to call a good friend of mine her fatherâs daughter (father was an engineer) because she had a tool kit, and yes, it was shocking how many times people ended up needing something from the toolkit.
This friend was popular in her own right, but also had an excellent stash of snacks that her grandmother would send her with that she had purchased on discount. So this friend would also frequently be the room that people would come to hang out in. If your kid might need help breaking the ice with folks, food is always helpful.
Tool kit and medicine kit will be sent with my kid. Also bought the book The Ultimate College Student Health Handbook: Your Guide for Everything from Hangovers to Homesickness to go with it after seeing it recommended on Harlan Cohenâs podcast. As big Parks and Rec fans, I have joked with D24 having a book will make sure she doesnât diagnose herself with ânetwork connectivity problemsâ while at school.
This is a great little book to include with their first aid box. Its practical and straight forward. Includes things like if/when to medicate for a fever, but also how to deal with a hangover.
Oops! Double posted. I highly recommend it.
It anyone is interested, this is the tool kit we got.
And donât forget to add a rubber mallet and door stops (these are cheap so we brought a few and passed around). Itâs a must for move in/out day but handy to keep through the year.
Same here. Unfortunately he could definitely go 0-4 with his tippy top schools which will be a sorry way to end the process, but what can you do?
We visited the school last week and we had a great time.
