Grades are out. D24’s individual semester GPA went up by 1.4 GPA points from spring, bringing up her cumulative GPA by a nice amount, too. We & she are really proud of her. She’s turned things around a lot.
Kid has to make some changes to her spring semester classes, but that’ll require faculty advisor to weigh in first so she’s working on that.
D24 is holding office hours right now at a conference. Shout out to anyone who might be at AGU 2025 and supporting an undergraduate late in the day on a Friday! Her last final exam was yesterday, so a stressful week. She will fly home tomorrow evening and we are all looking forward to relaxing and spending quality time together.
I’m happy to report a late-bloomer achievement on D24’s part! The one thing we unquestionably spoiled her in (although she is an extremely hard worker and perfectionist) was doing general house chores with us. I knew I was being lax, but my sister and I were the maids of the house (we had a brother and two parents who did almost nothing in the house–I know this sounds dramatic, but I’m not going to write a book to explain). There was no way I was making my girl child learn the many manual labor chores I learned as a kid. (She is an only child–there was no boy house maid, don’t worry!). But she just helped us do the house chores for the holidays with good will, now that she has been doing them for herself in her apartment, and living with a roommate who doesn’t do them. I’m happy that I’ve done no permanent damage to her character.
