Parents of the HS Class of 2024 (Part 2)

Similar here but she has one safety, one target, 12 reaches :/. In at safety, target, 3 reaches so far. 9 to go! She’s happy with her three reaches so far but would be thrilled about a few that are still out there! These next four weeks are going to be LONG

S24 does not want to discuss where he will go until all results come in. He has 9 acceptances so far and I have asked him to pick the top 3 in this and eliminate the others. He refuses so far and wants to wait for all decisions before we do this.

I am glad the last month or so has been very busy with work other wise I would be going crazy. The next 4 weeks will be hard with all the waiting. I feel we overdid with the number of Safety/matches we applied. Most of the ones we are waiting for are reaches so fingers crossed.

Your S24 may view his 9 acceptances as safeties/matches for him, but those schools could also be targets/reaches for other applicants. Out of courtesy and regard for other applicants, he should seriously consider waving a few admissions. One way for him to see it maybe that other applicants have secured REA/EA admission at his reaches, and if they don’t make up their mind until the very last minute, they would be reducing his chances of being admitted to his reach schools.

Good luck with his reaches!

Congrats and good luck. She very well may get into the school of nursing- many many kids change majors, especially ones like nursing. I have friends with kids who either left nursing middle of freshman year, or switched into nursing freshman year when spots opened up.

I was on TikTok last night and noticed that the deluge of admissions videos has started for the year. Somehow they hit different now that I have a kid waiting for decisions.

It’s kind of weird to think that by the end of this month, most kids (including mine) will have all of their decisions. After months and months of dealing with this process, certainty finally looms.

My D21 basically applied to only schools that had direct admit nursing. By the middle of her first semester she changed to mechanical engineering. By the middle of her second semester she changed to Data Science and Statistics. She is now a junior and has a job this summer doing Data Science type stuff.

In the same boat…I thought for sure D24 would be off her anxiety meds by this point, but like you said, there never seems to be a great time to do that. I know she is interested in drinking at college, so we also need to sit down w her Dr and go over the risks and/or adjust her medications.

Well, it’s the bottom of my kid’s list. This is where we live and he is ready to leave. Maybe a swap market would work well!!

We have S33! It will be a lottery by that time!

I sometimes joke that kids these days are in a College Admissions Hunger Games. Perhaps less of a joke by then . . . .

Or they could ask my ACT, and GRE scores! Heck, they might even ask his brother’s ACT score!

Yes but technically this doesn’t free up a spot. The colleges admit more than they need with yield in mind, unlike the waitlist it isn’t 1:1. Sadly we will likely see a TON of RD kids get waitlisted due to Fafsa delay impacting yield calculations.

Happy March 1 to you all, or as we call it in our house “happy ‘no more emails from the university of Tulsa’’ day’.

Ffs I have unsubscribed a bunch of times and still get hit with multiple a day. Every day. Parent and child email.

I just submitted my info also! Thank you for sharing this!

I was just telling someone that this is something I would like to do/be involve with. Thanks for sharing.

I participated in the info session earlier this week and got the link to the application today. I’m very excited!

I will have to look for another info session. Is it mandatory to do that first?

I don’t think so. You just have to submit a Google form with your info and they will send you the application. The application opened today and closes by the end of the month.

I understand what you are saying but from what I understand colleges take into account into this by their yield management and plan that X amount of people will not accept their offers. So if my S24 drops out of a college does not mean some one else will be given new offer if they have not been given yet.

I am encouraging him to start by dropping 3 colleges as soon as possible as he would not go there based on his other acceptances.
