So … IU has yet to announce tuition for next year. I just checked, and the Indiana legislature’s last day is March 14th. Indiana University said it will announce all merit awards by March 15th. Coincidence?
We are waiting on 5. I’m just hoping it isn’t a 0-5 result, although that is certainly possible given the schools in question (all reaches). Fortunately, S24 has 3 excellent acceptances in hand already (UVA, McGill and W&M Monroe) so he already has a “yes” from a school he’d be happy to attend which has reduced the angst a bit. Of course, he will be really disappointed if he doesn’t get into any of his remaining schools. It’s been an “interesting” process for sure.
Purdue, also in IN, announced their COA for '24-25 months ago so it must be school dependent if they feel they need to wait for state funding.
I can’t imagine Indiana cutting Mitch Daniels’ budget! Also Purdue did not raise tuition.
unc system also didnt raise tuition
Univ of Arizona raised room & board by $2k/year for next year!
We’re waiting on 4 (all reaches as well). It’s such a weird situation. Logically, given the odds, she should go 0-4 (because she’s test optional at reaches). However, she submitted her “all-5s” AP results to all schools, and that seems to have gotten her in, with decent funding, at a reach and a target-reach. I’m hoping at least one school says yes, for her morale, even if they don’t fund her.
I hear you on this, mine is a 3.0 student but quirky transcript/app so I can really see it going either way for both schools she’s waiting on, but at least one admission would be good for the soul.
I’m sensing we should have another informal competition to see who has a kid who applied to the most RD reaches and is still waiting decisions. I’ll arbitrarily say any college with an acceptance rate under 25% can count, plus more if the kid’s numbers are below the middle-50 range.
And I will immediately raise the bidding to 10 (although that includes a deferral).
We are waiting on 7-one was a deferral to RD. I think all the schools are less than 20% acceptance, maybe even 15%. Eek!
Us too, but our 7 include 2 deferrals (MIT up first tomorrow).
DS is waiting on 3 RDs. He’s not thinking about it. I honestly think the admissions game has just worn out his enthusiasm. At least he’s still working hard in school now to prep for the upcoming AP exams.
I’m grateful he is far more relaxed about this than I was back in the day…
I think that may be a function of NC’s budgeting system. I know K-12 schools have to finalize their budgets for the next school year more than 8 months before the legislature actually passes a budget for the same school year. This past year, we got the budget in September (to apply to the school year that had stared that past July). In 2022, it was December. In 2019, there was no budget enacted at all.
D24 is waiting on 4 reaches and 4 super reaches. Luckily she has some great acceptances in hand. I’m thankful she knows what the situation is and isn’t pinning all her hopes on these last decisions. I’m still hoping it isn’t an 0-8 situation for her. Would be nice to end this whole process with at least 1 “surprise” acceptance
Well, this is going poorly so far. I don’t actually want to WIN this competition, people!
Sorry, it wasn’t for lack of trying. D24 applied to 17 schools, but has already heard from 6 of them. Of the rest, 9 are pretty much reaches.
Why does it seem like all of the most selective/reach schools are the last to release? Is this a strategy of some sort?
Umm we are going to sneak in with 12….blame a rainy winter school break, etc etc; going to be quite a tough few days….although D24 does have very good offers in hand now thankfully
We are waiting on four “reaches” as well.
But have five with merit scholarships in hand. Two of the five have been favorites since visiting campuses last year, one a new favorite (on paper, I did not even know about the application until weeks after applying - with a late March visit lined up) that puts all five within the target budget (thank you, 529 plan).
So, they put themself into a really good position.
(And a lot of luck for our family (no medical emergencies, employed in fields with stability over what has been a very unstable couple of decades, great teachers/administrators in a strong public k-12, etc.) which allowed us to save toward this).
Is Denver University of Denver or CU Denver. My S24 is in at Denver (DU) and Boulder and a lot of other big name State schools but since he got good merit from DU has really been considering what he wants in an education. Things like access to Professors and not having to compete to get into every club has made DU rise to the top of his list. Is your daughter considering DU? I welcome input to his decision from the group.
