I too have a very colorful two-page spreadsheet
Great news!! Congrats!!!
As a Haverford alum I feel obliged to inform you that thereās a small dorm on campus called Drinker House. Itās a sign.
I am sure I have NO idea what you could be referring to . . . .
It actually isnāt common for the majority of applicants to put down deposits that early, in any year.
Instead, they rely on enrollment algorithms as another poster mentioned up-thread. Agreed, the FAFSA delay could throw these algos off a bit, but schools donāt use early deposits to predict how many seats they need to fill in RD.
D24 got into Bates! Looks like Iām planning a trip to Maine.
Maine is beautiful. Vacation land.
Yeah!!! Iām thinking lobster
You and me both!
Whatās everyone doing to distract themselves and their child from the anxiety of decisions rolling in over the next two weeks? S24 has really good options already but why do the decisions from reachy-reach schools take so much space in our minds! I know he has given it his all in HS and that making even one of the 8 schools would be like winning the lottery. S24 has an already stressful week coming up with robotics competitions and a final musical theater show. I am trying to avoid talking about college decisions with him in the few minutes of time we get together each day. But I know that hearing his classmates get into colleges where he has not heard yet (Grrā¦CMU) is adding to his stress level. The MIT rejection was expected but hard to hear and the echo of disbelief from well-meaning friends familiar with his stats and accomplishments just added on to the dejection. He is trying to put on a brave front, but I know the break is coming. Itās such a powerless feeling to know there is nothing you can do to prevent your children from getting hurt. I just canāt wait to be in Aprilā¦
My kid is at Bates - loves it! Congrats!
We have track and spring break coming. Hopefully those will keep us distracted.
Sophomore at Bates also - wonderful college. Has so much to offer!
Congratulations! Our son also was accepted! Our daughter is a sophomore and loves it. Great school!!
Yes! I am hoping S24 qualifies for the next stage at their upcoming competition. that will keep them busy till Mid-Aprilā¦
This is why so many kids care about rankings, T20 schools, etc.
Itās easy as an adult to sit back and tell 17 years olds they can do great anywhere. However, we donāt attend school with our kids, who see classmates daily, gossip, compare, and judge.
Kids are on Instagram. They know whatās going on and thereās immense pressure from their friends, family and even teachers. You didnt get in? What happened?
Who wants to go through that gauntlet of psychological torture, self doubt, and second guessing.
I channeled some nervous energy today by starting to put together a first aid kit for D24ās dorm room. The waiting for oneās kid to make a decision is torturous. D24 is really frustrated w/DH & I today because we bugged her about making a decision. She even said today that sheās purposely going to make us wait a couple more days just because we asked too early. Meanwhile, in my head, my brain is saying, āFOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, JUST MAKE A DANG DECISION ALREADY!ā
I also did a whole lot of weeding in the front yard yesterday, so thereās that.
Is it really necessary to attend Admitted Student Day? (Except maybe for the free swag? )
S24 has been to the school twice, both time stayed overnight, so he is familiar with the campus and the dorms.
From the schedule the school had posted for the day, most of the stuffs they have arranged for the students, S24 is already knew or done, like attended a class or spoken with some of the professors.
I guess I just donāt want to spend 1 grand just for one day. (I know I am cheap⦠but i gotta save every penny for his school fund )
No - itās necessary (well itās highly recommended) that a student is familiar with the school they are going to attend. That doesnāt matter if it happened through a regular tour, self tour or otherwise.
Of course, the more chances to visit and potentially make friends wonāt hurt.
But not going - not a huge deal at all - as long as the student is comfortable with their decision should they decide to attend.
I think if he has enough info to make the decision and has seen it before I think it is ok to skip it.
