I agree the post notification ED withdrawal is poor form, but I’m still more frustrated with the institution-first-student-last gamesmanship of schools even more.

The ED rules are simple: an ED applicant needs to pay the application fee, submit a parent & school counselor signatures, and guarantee that an early acceptance will be accepted and all other applications will be pulled. As long as there is a valid ED application, these rules apply. Pretty certain 99.99% of applicants diligently follow the established ED protocol, and there is no reason to presume that an applicant would be that unethical/immoral one, or be sent to hell for those who believe there is a hell. D24 applied ED to Brown but wasnt accepted.
@WeakestLink D24 has not yet received acceptance letters from UT/McGill, and looks forward to receiving them.

Did I misunderstand that your DD had chosen to apply ED2 somewhere? I believe you said she had secured admission through a commitment. Could you clarify?
It has been a very scary and difficult past month here. D24 was rear ended and sustained a long lasting concussion. We’ve been told it could take 3 to 4 months for her to fully recover. She is finally back at school on a modified schedule. It’s so hard to see her functioning at such a lower capacity than usual. On the positive side, she is showing some small but meaningful signs of improvement. Very thankful now that her school makes kids take an extra credit every year up until senior year so she has a cushion and could easily drop a few classes. Also very thankful that she got into her ED school and we only had to communicate with that one school. Both her high schoo and ED school have been extremely supportive and let her make the academic changes that she needed. I am still worried but trying to remain positive and hopeful that this is just a bump in the road.
Wishing her a great recovery and glad to hear of the recent improvement.
Concussions are very very scary. Hopefully she comes back to 100%.
So sorry to hear this but glad she is on the mend. It is rough that it is senior year but it is great she already has an ED school.
My older daughter had a concussion her sophomore year. It wasn’t long lasting but it was tough as she called me almost every day to be picked up early from school for headaches.
Hope your D recovers quickly.
I’m so sorry your daughter was hurt. It must be so frustrating for her to deal with this…though it is good to hear the schools are working to make sure she is safe and in best position to recover.
Sending hugs, healing vibes and support.
Wishing her the very best on her road to recovery. She has drive and determination, I have no doubt she will go far. Sending you and your family prayers. Glad she is back so quickly at school.
So scary! I’m glad there is improvement lately and hope it continues.
I am so sorry to hear about the concussion. Doctors stress the importance of allowing recovery so congrats on both of you for letting the recovery happen despite the frustrations. So happy to hear that the High School and ED school understand the importance of this.
I’m so sorry – how scary that must have been. I hope your daughter recovers swiftly.
So sorry to hear your D24 is hurt. It’s very scary.
Hope she recovers soon and glad that she will be able to graduate and ED school is understanding about the situation.
Best wishes to your D24 for a speedy recovery and an amazing future.
I am so sorry to hear this. But I am glad that you are remaining positive despite this situation. I hope she makes a full recovery as soon as possible. I am also glad that she got into her ED school and the school is helpful! Hang in there and it will get better very soon.
Sending positive thoughts for a smooth recovery
What I am learning as a parent who’s new to this whole ‘helping your kid apply to college’ thing is that, once again, not every college does things the same way.
For example:
Yesterday, I sent an email to Univ of Arizona’s housing department asking them a few questions. I also included their admissions department on the email. I got a rather unhelpful reply from the housing department. They answered some of the questions, but not all of them and redirected me to admissions instead. Has the admissions department said anything at all? No. Could the housing department, oh, I don’t know, be proactive and find out? You know, collaborate w/colleagues at your place of work? No.
But what do I know? This is the institution that is $250M in the hole, so I’m expecting too much. here’s what I asked them:
- We’ve paid the $175 non-refundable housing application fee already. What is the date that on-campus dorm selection begins?
- What is the date that on-campus dorm selection ends?
- When you pick your dorm, do you have to have paid the U of A enrollment deposit first?
- Is the Fall 2024 enrollment deposit deadline still 5/1 for U of A?
- When you pick your dorm, is that when you pay the $400 housing rent down payment? Or do you pay that at a later date? If you pay it at a later date, what is the deadline?
Have you looked through all of the online housing info? Most schools will list all dates and deadlines online or in the housing portal. Processes | Housing & Residential Life
Wishing your child a smooth recovery. My son was recently concussed (snowboarding competition) and we are navigating the academic implications right now…so happy to hear your daughter was given so much support and understanding
I’m so very sorry that your son also has a concussion! Hopefully his will heal within the typical 7-14 days. It was especially frightening seeing no improvement at the 2 week mark. We found the school to be accommodating as long as we had a doctor’s note laying out specific accommodations. D24 ended up dropping 2 classes and that has made school manageable but it took a few weeks before she could even get through one class. A friend recommended some supplements and I think they are helping. Vitamin B12 made the most difference in ability to concentrate. Wishing a full and speedy recovery for your son!
