Congratulations on Stanford and the full ride scholarship!
This has to be the nuttiest year ever. My kid did fine but several kids we knew that seemed Harvard bound from birth got in no where! Kids with pretty low gpas from our school getting into UCLA/Berkeley while the top 10% got into no UCs. My kid did fine but I feel awful for all the kids that worked their tails off for 12 years and have virtually no options! I just canāt make sense of it all (and please no comments about low income/race because that wasnāt a factor for the kids I know.). Did others have this experience at their schools? Iāve got kid number 2 next year and I donāt know how to prepare!
That is very surprising about the no UCLA/Cal for the top kids at your school. This is an in state school?
Some individual disappointments here and there in our public HS in NC (not charter, not magnet), but overall no surprises this year. It seems that this class did better at more selective places than past few years including covid years.
More towards Columbia as his sister is there.
Congratulations!
Thank you very much!
I wonder what kind of students NC State wanted this year because even 4.0 UW/34 ACT/good EC kids (in-state) were getting wait listed at D24ās school and others nearby.
As much as I hate to plan out the waitlist cycle, I might end up needing to.
Whatās the best way to navigate through this? just wait it out? LOCI? or reach out to school?
Rejected ivies, UCLA, Berkeley, UCSBā¦ā¦now Stanford vs MIT/Caltech/UVA/Tufts, all great options
1 wordā¦
Has been hard week but glad its over. Final results for this week: 1 waitlist, 1 late start option and 2 rejects.
S24 did not seem to care about others but wanted NYU but was waitlisted there. I could not find any data on the wait list numbers and how many accepted off waitlist for last few years.
I wish we did not have the waitlists in the mix but S24 still wants to keep 2 of the 3 waitlist he has so far in consideration and see what happens. For now we will visit his top 3 choices from the acceptances (UMD, Case Western and UW-Madison).
Had a chat with S24 and he seems to be ok to going to one of the 3.
Thank you!
Stanford, MIT and Caltech! He didnāt even have to apply to Ivies after that!
According to https://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/CDS_2022-2023_Cornell-University-v5.pdf, 7729 students were offered WL spots. 5531 accepted WL spots at Cornell. 260 were admitted off the WL. 4.7% odds of getting admitted off the WL at Cornell.
Vanderbiltās CDS ā Common Data Set | Office of Data and Strategic Analytics (DSA) | Vanderbilt University
Vanderbiltās CDS only says that 140 students were admitted off the WL, not how many accepted a WL spot.
I hate that some schools choose to not provide data on the WL and they are not much better on their FAQs but NYU says this.
So like others, sign their form and then forget about them.
UMD, CWRU, and Wisconsin - itās awesome heās ok with those three - great schools!! Congrats to him. He did very well.
āThe number of students who have been admitted from the waitlist has varied widely in previous years. While during one recent year, we were not able to admit any students from the waitlist, in others we were able to admit hundreds of students. Again, the number of admission offers we can extend is contingent on the number of responses we get to our initial offers of admission, and we will have a better idea of what space is available after the admitted student response deadline.ā
This is the most intriguing list of acceptances and denials ā your child has some truly amazing options . Iāve always thought test blind and the capped weighted average approach might make UC results significantly more arbitrary and results like these and others noted in this thread seem to confirm that is happening.
Thank you so much! I remember you from 3 years ago when my D21 applied to colleges. I am glad that this stressful college season is coming to an end. Couldnāt have made it without you and others at CC. So grateful to have my virtual friends to share happiness/sadness going through this process.
Iām so excited to do it all again in a few months! (Said no one ever!)
Iām going to need a big vacation after D25 is settled. Hopping third time will be the charm and she will be settled on December 15th (one can wish right?)
Wow canāt imagine doing it so soon after the last few months. Good luck and hopefully you will be done by Dec as you said.
