Parents of the HS Class of 2025 (Part 1)

Yes. She thought the English was pretty easy. Her PSAT English was 720 so even an increase since October.

Have fun! We only have senior prom here so now shopping until next year.

deleted because what I wrote was wrong:)

JJ’s. 20% off if you keep the try on dress. And for an extra $20 you can order custom sizing which was tempting.

Thank you! My oldest has been looking for a dress (college event, not prom) & not liking anything. Today she found “the one” on JJ House. I appreciate the recommendation! Now we pray it fits since she doesn’t have the time or means to get to a seamstress.

Duct tape works on dresses too.

I was lucky in having daughters who knew that to find the best prom dresses, it’s best to avoid anything marketed as a prom dress.

My D24 has really been ultra reasonable with prom dresses. Her dress last year was found at a thrift store by her older sister (so free basically) and this year I am making her dress. I am probably in about $40 for fabric and the pattern. Upside is no one is going to have the same thing

I love this! Where did you find the winner?

Macy’s

We prom shopped by ordering a number of dresses from various stores and returning. I hate this method, but after searching for HoCo dresses in local stores for size 00 that she likes was fruitless. Just have to check the return policy carefully and follow it to a T.

Anyone else getting spooked with friends’ college results? My co-workers and kid’s senior friends are talking about the UC bloodbath this year. 3.9 and 4.0 GPA kids getting rejected from 2nd and even 3rd tier UCs. Sigh.

We are a 24 and it has been a pretty crazy year. I would think 25 will probably be more of the same unfortunately.

Relief seems to be coming to the high school freshman class due to the supposed enrollment cliff.

I’ve been lurking on the 2024 pages to have a basic idea of what is accepted and what is not. There’s some definite yield protection going on which is stressing me out (I have a high stats kid who isn’t interested in T20/full price privates.)

Yes! The most unexpected result last year for my high stats D23 was waitlist at Syracuse, which based on stats/Naviance should have been a safety. But they track demonstrated interest and we did not visit, she did not interact at all with anyone there.

Well the same thing happened to my D this year. Not only that we did show interest and visited. Argh!

Truth is we probably could have showed even more interest like interviewing, talking to AO etc.

Argh! I was really hoping that showing up on campus would be enough to fend off yield protection. Was this Syracuse or another school?

Yes, Syracuse.

But I think it depends on what school you are applying to etc. Ours was Whitman which is pretty popular.

Oh my word. D25 just informed me that I scheduled her for the wrong SAT date (May instead of June). I did this in October! There is nothing, but nothing, anywhere near us now for the June date, so I’ve just registered her for a place 2.5 hours away. I’m so stinking annoyed. Trying hard to extend the same grace to myself that I do to others. (Grumble, grumble, grumble.) Silver lining: at least she noticed now and we didn’t just show up on the wrong day. Hope your week is going more smoothly than mine!

I’m so sorry. D22 got dropped at the wrong site one year. We had changed the location and didn’t notice that the ticket printed with the original one.
