Yes, D25 can’t wait until Tuesday is over because her load will be so much lighter. Soccer regionals on Saturday so that is also coming to an end for the year.
Next week is elections for officers for Student council, NHS, and some other things. Hoping that all shakes out in D25’s favor.
D25 is taking the ap psych exam today. I have been totally hands off. Her last ever dance recital is this weekend and I know she is dealing with lots of emotions.
S23 back from college is my handful at the moment. Ugh.
I am distracting myself by helping my oldest (23 yo) find items for his new apartment he will move into in August. He’s been on his own since his 2019 hs grad but is now going from a furnished shared apt with roommates to his own 1 bedroom. I am excited for him.
S25 made it through his big day yesterday! I was totally expecting him to come home after 3 exams in one day (2 APs plus DE Linear Algebra final) and be utterly exhausted, but he said it went really well and the adrenaline + caffeine and chocolate kept him going all day. AP lit was harder than he expected, but AP Computer Science A was easy, and he thought his Linear Algebra final was his best exam all semester.
I told him that his trip to ISEF next week is like a well-deserved “vacation” after all the studying for those three exams (plus studying for ACT and SAT in the month prior). But he does still have to take the Econ AP late after he gets back.
Good luck to all those with AP exams still to come this week and next!
My dad’s family has big age gaps between him and his brothers. His brothers both married and had children later so my son (great-grandson) is older than 2 of the grandchildren!
My son thought the AP Computer Science A test was easy, as well. But we shall see when the score comes out. I am not feeling hopeful that some miracle will occur before APUSH tomorrow, but I’m going to let go, let God on this one.
Last night was the awards banquet for band. Kiddo was recognized for some of his accomplishments for the year, but no big leadership awards. The big “award” he did win was the purple squid hat that a senior passes down each year to the “craziest, goofiest, funniest” band member in the junior class. Well, proud parenting moment when my kid was called and went tearing to the front of the room making a scene to don his purple squid hat. Y’all, he’s a mess, but I guess he’s my mess.
Thank goodness we’re one day closer to the weekend!
AP Psych today went much better than AP Chem, which is somewhat surprising since my kid loves chemistry and the psych teacher at our school is awful. Next up: Calc on Monday & Lang on Tuesday.
I have a college senior who graduates at the end of the month. I’m holding my breath that the graduation proceeds without incident because there’s been an encampment and protesting that seems to be escalating. These are HS class of 2020 kids who didn’t get a high school graduation, prom, etc. and their entire first year of college was virtual.. i’m praying they get a normal graduation ceremony on campus in person with everyone cheering
I know that a 2-week turnaround on SAT scores is much better than it used to be, but here in the middle of it, I’m just going “why don’t I have scores yet? I need to knowwwwwww”. And then I remember that I can’t get them any faster, and I just need to wait, and besides, my C25 is chill about it, so I should be, too.
Well, that one at least I understand – the AP tests have short/long answer parts, and they use AP teachers to grade them, so they have to wait until all the school years (including my kids, who go until June 25) are over, to have teachers available to get the training for “what is a 5 vs what is a 1”, and then have them read & grade all the tests. I have a friend who has gone to help grade the AP Lang test one year, and it’s a whole thing that is a whirlwind week of extra work/pay, and exhausting, too.
The SATs though? The computer is done grading them – it was done about 15 minutes after the test was submitted.
That makes sense. I’m a newbie parent to all of this AP stuff. My son just had APUSH today and AP Lang coming up Tuesday. We had no idea when to expect the scores, so thank you!
I think the AP scores came out in July last year. D25 said APUSH was “good”. A few of the kids from her class haven’t taken it yet as they’re on a band trip so they’ve been instructed not to talk about it at all!
Oh same same! The SAT score wait felt like forever when both of the C25s took it in March (at different testing locations!) and one child received score in morning and other child 2 days later when finally logged on to college board portal
Thankful one C25 is at a boarding school with no AP courses and has decided to not attempt to sit for any exams (yes plenty of kids at her school do this ) & the other C25 is taking APs next year (at different boarding school)…generally does his own thing on own time!
I haven’t looked on the cb website to see about AP score release, but I recall with my older kid that CB released scores over 2-3 days depending on your location. My student wasn’t home (east coast) when scores were released and had to wait an extra day until cb allowed access to the Midwest.
My D25 is having an awful track season, partially due to shin splints, but she qualified for sectionals because there were only 3 pole vaulters in her district. lol
How far are your kids in their application process? So far she has taken the ACT and SAT, and we have narrowed our long list down to about 10 schools. She’s also given her counselor and teacher recommenders a brag sheet. But that’s about it so far. Her school is a big urban public school so they don’t have any handholding for the process. Definitely haven’t been able to work on college essays in school.
The end of year is brutal with AP and IB test and theater performances. I’m hoping she gets some serious essay drafting done in June.
D25 has started culling a larger list. Down to about 10 schools at the moment. I suspect that a few will be added and a few will come off over the next few months.
We’ve not pushed essay writing, etc. at this time as we want her to simply focus on end of school year stuff - just completed state tournament in speech, had state orchestra recital, finals and APs, etc. We’ll probably give her a week or so to decompress and then start the essay process. She has an active yet flexible summer so that she should have time to engage in the college app writing. Unfortunately, Fall will be quite busy so she really does need to enter the Fall with a good bit if this behind her or at least to a point that she can manage to put together quality applications from mid-Oct on.
