Parents of the HS Class of 2025 (Part 1)

D25 asked her AP Lang and AP Environmental Science teachers to write her rec letters today. She said they both seemed really excited.

FYI, I asked D25 and she said that she had the Food Truck Regulations question and that the Selfie question was on an alternate exam.

AP Lang…my kid did NOT like that it was digital. Struggled reading long passages on a screen. Thought it would’ve been much easier had it been on paper

Your son taking a nap reminds me of what my son did last year during the APUSH exam! He took a nap too! I was beside myself.. but it all worked out OK. And mine also didn’t feel there was much he could do to prep for lang. AP Bio tomorrow? Well that’s a different story. We won’t talk about how he’s on the couch on his phone right now instead of studying though… Thanks for recognizing how odd it is that she didn’t quite understand why he’d want to keep his scores off? My current working theory is that the rest of his class that sat for the SAT that day didn’t score as well, so she is looking at it differently. It could muddy the decision around applying TO, but he’s got time to figure that out and I think getting scores off the transcript is still the right choice, especially since she won’t be his GC next year. Fingers crossed she follows through on their discussion. Good luck on Friday’s exam!

even for writing part? I am not sure my kids have ever hand written an essay in their lives! typing an essay vs. hand writing is a different mental process/model IMO. Others may have very different experiences though.. we were very relived it was online!

It would be ideal if they could give kids a choice, but logistics of that seem awfully hard!

Our school tends to do assessments in the same format as the exam, so for Lang, APUSH, Euro they pretty much stick to in class writing assignments, on paper.

Digital is here to stay though. I am guessing next year all in class assignments will be on the computer.

wow! fascinating…did they hand write essays BEFORE the AP classes?

FWIW I meant they literally never have written long-hand essays, even in 4-5th grade when first starting writing multiple paragraphs they could type.

I am pretty sure they have digital AP USH at our school…(though my kid didn’t take it). My other kid goes to a school w/ no APs, so a non-issue for them anyway..

AP Bio Tomorrow

D25 has AP Bio tomorrow as well. She has basically been vegging out since AP Lang yesterday.

MidwestMom pointed out (a little aggressively) that studying before the test might be a good idea. The thing is, D25 has studied quite a bit over the past few weeks (the AP class for her ended in mid-March) and seems to have a good grasp of the material. I’m of the mindset that looking over the material again might not hurt, but studying at this point is not really going to help: she either knows it or she doesn’t.

She did do a practice test re the portion with the multiple choice. She missed just a few and chalked those up to careless errors. My question was, “How do you prevent careless errors tomorrow.” I did not get a very satisfying response. Oh well, tomorrow is the last exam and my guess is she has mostly checked out.

Standardized Test Scores on Transcript

As to the scores on the transcript, our school does that too and it rather blew me away. D25 has only taken the ACT and has done so twice. Oddly, the school does superscore on the transcript, but doesn’t round up as the college would.

Ah, that makes sense. D25 also took to AP Comp Sci test today and said the kid in front of her had a different exam than she did. It makes sense they would alternate.

Got D25 sushi for dinner to reward her for 3 AP tests in 3 days. She’s a champ.

12 more days of school.

How awesome is sushi for a reward!

How many school days left for everyone? We have 10 days left and then 4 days of exams but D25 will only have 2 exams, Biomed (her dual enrollment) and Physics.

Tomorrow is volunteer day where the entire school goes in groups to do various activities around the area. Then next Friday is what they call junior step-up day where they take the juniors to a class bonding day getting the ready for senior year.

Final exams start today. If they have state mandated end of course exams, IB, or AP exams, or a high enough average, they aren’t required to take the class final. Today and tomorrow are full days with two exams in the morning and two classes in the afternoon. Next week is a half day with two exams in the morning, a remote remediation day, another half day with two exams, and the last day is Thursday, the 23rd which is a recovery day for invited students only. (Cracks me up. Sounds like it’s a good thing.)

S25 has 2 afternoon classes to attend today and one tomorrow, and then he is finished,.

My '25 still has 3+ weeks and then an exam period on top of that..

The '24s graduate early, though, and some of their classes have a number of seniors so those class feel like they are almost wrapped up.

3 more weeks here too. My S only has 1 non AP, so he is hoping to not have too much homework or projects to do. We are trying to use this time to visit a few local colleges.

Just AP Physics 1 test tomorrow, and S25 is done. He looks more relaxed than he has in months, which is nice given the stress of this year.

A week and then finals, but she doesn’t have any real finals

Today is the last day of exams for D25 and last day of school.

I went through the list I made for D25 and 5 of the 16 or 17 consider demonstrated interest (with 2 being highly important). One school I could not find any data for (Rider). So now a few are on the radar to try to email out and/or attend virtual info sessions if possible if we can’t physically get there by decision time.

3 on her list have EA option. 1 has “priority” and 1 has ED (which we will not do).

Getting more real.

We have another month - last day is June 16th. Unfortunately, we’re all totally mentally done.

D25 is taking the AP bio exam right now. She has a final exam tomorrow, a US history paper due on Tuesday and then she is done! I’m going to try to give her a couple of days to breathe, but she needs to start reviewing for the June 1st SAT. She hasn’t had time to even think about standardized testing review since last summer and her April school day score wasn’t bad, but wasn’t what she wanted either… so not quite done yet. It’s unfortunate because she so clearly she needs a break!
