D18 (ballet dancer) definitely doesn’t do two-sided. I think she believes it’s better if they can see the single page resume alongside her photo during an audition to identify her without having to turn over the page. Usually that means just putting a small headshot photo in the top right corner of her resume in addition to attaching any specific photos they want (arabesque etc).
Ironically, after I posted this D25 reminded me that that’s exactly how her dance resume is–headshot in the top L. I’m not even sure that this places wants/needs resumes, but at least now we’re prepared–well, after I printed ten and then she realized she had forgotten to add a couple of recent performances. So now we have ten good ones and ten “well, give these to the ones you like least” ones. Thanks for the reassurance!
Your D25 sounds a lot like mine. I haven’t looked at the activities list, but you’ve reminded me that I should.
My S24 hated essay writing, so here is what he did to make it less painful- he added a tab to his college spreadsheet with all of the supplemental essay prompts for each school. He then wrote which essay he wanted to submit for each prompt - for example, the “Lego Essay” was his short essay about building Legos & his interest in engineering. Then he color coded the essays- one was the overcoming a challenge essay, one was about diversity, the why do you want to major in X essay, etc. This made it easier for him to fill out supplemental essays, because so many of them are so similar. He would go back, find an essay that would work for the prompt and tweak it to be school-specific. He also realized that after editing some of his essays several times that they got better each time. My second kiddo has her spreadsheet arranged the same way, just to cut down on the stress of all those supplementals. Best of luck to all your kids as they go through the process!

Does anyone know if you should put in a final grade for a class in the Common App if your school only gives out end of semester grades? Do we leave that blank or put in the 2nd semester grade or …?
Put whatever the end of the year grade was. If it’s a 1 semester class put that grade in.
So if he got a A- first semester and an A second semester, what would you put for final grade? His transcript just shows those two grades with no final grade. This is for a year long class
S25 just texted me. The not-so-nice math teacher stopped him in the hall this morning before class and told him that she was grading his test and that “so far” she could read his handwriting. And then she said, “You can do it!”
It’s a Christmas miracle. In August.
And kudos to the teacher for taking a moment of her time to give him this type of encouragement. It clearly meant something to your son who took time to comment about it. Its those little touches that can be incredibly meaningful points in life - not saying this is one of those.
My guess is that this will motivate your son even more than he already is. Well done him!
You always put semester grades.
Thanks for responding, there is a place for 1st semester, 2nd semester and then final grade. It’s that last slot that we are not sure about as his school does not issue a final grade for the year. Just the two semesters
I believe you just leave that blank.
Yes! I think this is one of those moments that he will remember. I really appreciate the teacher giving him encouragement!
The box for Final grade should be left blank if the school does not give a final grade.
Thanks!
School starts Tuesday for D25.
We need to tour a few more schools. U of Scranton is now my top pick for her. Fingers crossed!
I loved my time at LVC (of course, that’s 30 years ago).
Submitting Common App today (at least everything we can do on our end)!
