We are too and it’s giving me hives
D25 got his first acceptance for Oregon State for ME yesterday! Hoping to hear back from Pitt very soon as well. He now has to submit his Cal State app and then he’s for real done and just waiting!
Same!! The teachers apparently have the application deadline listed in Naviance, and I suppose they will not be rushed
Daughter sent a polite email reminding them that she had sent invites from Naviance, but not one of the three(!) who has agreed to do LOR for her has uploaded yet! Nail biting.
Congrats to everyone on the acceptances! This is so exciting!
Same for us. Not just nail biting - it’s kind of annoying!
My S23 is a ME major at OSU. He’s had a really positive experience so far. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
Happy dance going on this morning: S25 checked his submitted application portals and he’s in at University of Alabama at Huntsville!! Woo-hoo!! It’s one of his top 3 choices for studying engineering, so this is definitely a big deal.
Phew!
(And he only learned about it because over breakfast this morning I told him it was important to regularly check the school portals, in case they wanted additional info or were offering invitations. Never mind that I’ve said this to him before and that our paid college application guide has said this to him before…just gonna ignore that for the moment…sticking with the happy dance!!)
Does anyone have experience with fly-in programs?
S25 and his boyfriend applied to several, and my son was accepted to one (his boyfriend was accepted to a different one). The catch—the school wasn’t on his list, although it easily could be and is a great school.
I gather an acceptance means a highly likely chance at admission?
I’m curious if anyone here has established any milestone celebration ideas for the application and acceptance steps this senior year.
We have been going out for ice cream to celebrate when a submittal is completed. Mind you, we only expect 5 applications, but it has been a nice way to recognize that S25 did the work needed to present himself to a school.
Now that he’s gotten an acceptance, I would like to do something as well, but I want to keep in mind that not every response from his applications is necessarily going to be a positive one. So I don’t want for him to say “If only I could have had a cupcake” or “a dinner out” for a school that might offer a deferral or an outright denial.
I would just be happy to hear if anyone has suggestions for ways to mark the occasion – because it is an occasion! – but not make it too big. Any thoughts?
Congratulations to all on the acceptances. My son hasn’t applied yet, as he is doing one more SAT round this Saturday. Then two weeks after that it is application city! I would love for him to get one admit, so he can relax a bit and wait on financial aid (tuition exchange) or other scholarships. I am so happy for all of the families who have one sure thing in the bank! Woohoo!!
Thinking back to my D23, who didn’t apply to any really difficult schools so she got in everywhere, we took her out to dinner when she got into her reach school. Just spur of the moment. Otherwise we didn’t make too much of her other acceptances except to tell her we were proud of her.
I think for rejections (and we’re certainly expecting some for S25) it depends on your kid. Do they want to be left alone? My son would. But my daughter might want to smash a cupcake or throw darts at a school flier
All 5 applications submitted! Now she waits to get emailed from each school to sign up for auditions. It’s a relief that it’s done but also exciting for this major milestone. We did a family hug, we just didn’t realize we’d all feel some strong emotions.
No celebrations here for submitting applications and nothing more than a hug or a high five, and a “Congrats! We’re proud of you!” for acceptances.
This might be indicative of my own bad habits, but maybe just keep up with ice cream? Ice cream to celebrate an acceptance and ice cream for condolences?
Ice cream does work for just about any life occasion.
I don’t need much of an excuse to get ice cream. Wheels are now turning in my head.
“Oh, you scheduled another interview? Daiquiri Ice all around!”
I think @AustenNut and @Izzy74 and @goldbug have all hit the nail on the head here: ice cream for everybody!!
You’ll be glad to know that we did, indeed, get ice cream tonight.
Plus some hugs
FWIW, we’re also ice cream people. Applications done? Ice Cream! Accepted into school? Ice Cream! Had to get three shots at your checkup yesterday? Ice Cream! (That actually happened - it was his well visit and he got the flu and covid shots plus a meningitis something or other. And since his doctor is near his childhood favorite restaurant - Wendy’s - (we’re so fancy
) he got a frosty to take the sting out of the visit.)
Just popping in to share with you because I don’t want to admit to my spouse how much I’m just lurking on this board… I keep seeing the post for someone looking for a “BS Consultant” and forgetting that people use this as a place to find boarding schools, and I’m all “I can be your Bull $h!t consultant! Sign me up!” And every time it makes me laugh.
To tie this to another thread, I wish THAT were a viable retirement job! I’d be all ready to go!
So far acceptance tally is…
(10 instate publics-none of which she wants to attend)
(One or two direct admits on niche, again, none so far she would want to attend.)
Iowa State (4k/yr merit to start but oos COA may be high)
Wayne State College (unsure of merit or scholarships. COA right now is 18k/yr)
Mercyhurst (20k/yr merit. COA still 39k/yr at this point. Slight chance of full tuition offer).
