I mean, it’s only better if it’s a picture of your PARENTS!
My S has his last application due today as well. VT. Those short answers are killing him, but he says they are mostly done. I feel remarkably calm about it. Partly because VT is a reach for him, and also because even if he happens to get in, I don’t think he will pick it over a couple of the others that SHOULD be easier admits for him. I almost thought he would decide not to apply, but he wants to, so it’s on him to get it done and submitted. I am JUST.SO.HAPPY that this part of the process is over!!
D did senior pictures through the school and they’re pretty meh so I paid too much for an in studio photo shoot so she could have her instruments and different outfits including her marching band uniform. We went through the hundreds of pictures and narrowed down to 30 then my in-laws wanted 20 more we didn’t pick which cost even more. Now we have 50 digital pictures to do as we please. D’s best friend is a silly sock guy so he’s getting socks with her pictures on them for Christmas. More seriously D is using some of the music pictures as headshots for resume stuff plus she’s making a book for my mom and a large collage.
SILLY SOCKS! I am 100% giving my husband socks with my kids face on it for Christmas.
I did a photo book with all 20 photos so I feel like they all got put to use.
That may be where I’m going. Plus I have three images from the school senior portraits (I wanted two of them, but the pricing was the same for two or three) and those three downloads were something like $200. (Rip off city, given that the set up was no fancier than the regular school pictures, including same photographers and same backdrops.)
Our apparent “tradition” of finishing things last minute continues. Today it’s essays for honors colleges. D25 says she’ll have them done in time to go see a friend’s play tonight. She’s a good writer, so I’m still hopeful that even the churned out essay will turn out reasonably well, but she generally doesn’t have me look at her essays before submission, so I won’t know. (This is fine. She uses spellcheck and grammarly, so there won’t be any egregious errors.)
D25 has nixed one school once she learned she genuinely can’t double major there. Lots of her schools give lip service to being able to double major with dance, but she’ll certainly need to do a deeper dive into the possibilities once she knows what her options are. She also nixed the easiest application on her list, which is fine, but was harder for me, as I felt like there were some good safeties/matches on it. (No essays! Pretty straightforward! You tick their boxes! But, she reminded me, she doesn’t want a commuter school, and the non-commuter schools she was considering don’t have ballet. Must you be logical about this? )
I confess some jealousy that some of you are entering the waiting phase. Don’t misunderstand, that’s a hard phase, but once D25 finishes “submit application phase” she enters “audition phase” through mid/late February. Even as I confess my jealousy, I am choosing to be grateful that we can support this passion of hers, that we can pay for app fees, that she wants to double major, that we can go to some in-person auditions so she can vet the culture of the school while she’s there. This busyness is actually a gift that not everyone has. And I will end my Suzy Sunshine moment by saying there are pretty changing leaves on the tree outside my window.
More seriously, though, I am leaning into the fact that I get to choose my perspective on the things in my life, and it is helping me during this stressful time.
ETA: SHE HAD ALL THE ESSAYS DONE 2-3 HOURS BEFORE THE DEADLINE. It’s a Friday miracle!
S25 just got accepted to UCF for Aerospace Engineering! Such a weight off!
Are they 20 of the same pose or multiple poses? We had three different poses printed for us and family, but only eight prints total. Then we got eight additional poses in snapshot size put in a little photo book.
It’s three shirts and four distinctly different looking locations and I’d say it’s probably 12-13 different poses. There are a few that are sort of two or three variations in a theme.
I don’t know what kind of schools interests your D, but the one where I work definitely makes double majors possible, including in dance. Some majors are easier to pair than others. If she’s into SLACs in the Northeast or wants to know more, message me.
Sounds like photo book time!
Maybe our kids will end up at the same school! Lots of overlap I think!
Senior photos: This is why we paid the money for hi-res digital photos with all of our kids—one 5×7 for the grandparents who want that size of all their grandchildren, one 8×10 for the other grandparents who want that size of all their grandchildren, and digital photos to go on the hard drive for us.
Have to cancel the Lindenwood tour and dance day d25 was so excited about.
But, its because our football team is off to state and she gets to dance on the field at “insert big name college football stadium” next weekend. She is so excited!!
Congratulations! I was wondering if anyone was going to hear from any schools yesterday.
D25 has decided to not apply for the final scholarship opportunity from the one school. It would be a stretch and include a lot of exaggerating for her to get things to write for it. So, with that decision I think she is done with all of her supplementals that she knows about at this point. Hallelujah!
In other school news, the Mock trial team finally got their case for the year. It has something to do with fentanyl so quite timely I suppose. Also, the football team is still hanging in there moving onto the 3rd playoff round tonight. It’s a home game so that is exciting. I think it’s the first time ever getting to this level so the excitement in her school is palpable.
Unrelated to college but very proud of my D25 today- She ran her first half marathon this morning! We trained together for 3 months and crossed the finish line side by side. Made a great memory together
She’s not a big runner- no sports in HS. Just decided to sign up out of the blue. I feel like the mental strength she developed through training for and finishing 13.1 miles will serve her well in the future!
C25 got second acceptance yesterday. It was another safety but I believe the top safety pick and with a whooping $42k scholarship. This definately lowers pressure around here on the other scholarship applications.
Wow that is incredible!!! Congratulations
