So exciting! After research St. Olaf I want to go there! It looks like an incredible school.
Congratulations! My son got his ED decision last night as well and will be an Ole too!
Congratulations!!
Congrats to the Oles! Any idea when the EA decisions come out?
I wish I could help - the website just says late December. They didn’t post to Instagram until last night at about 8. S25 received a text to check his email at about 7:15 last night, so there was really no heads-up.
yup. I think I’ve similarly checked “how do we do WUE for OSU? is there anything to submit? do they just tell us? when?” about 15 times already…
My D25 applied there but we’re OOS so we are anxiously awaiting Dec. 17. Congrats to your student!
There’s nothing extra to submit for WUE at OSU. D25 got a notification in her portal about a month after her acceptance.
D25 just accepted OOS to UGA! Super excited for her. This was the first “high stakes” app from which she has heard results. Nice little scholarship as well that will help if she decides to be UGA bound.
It’s apparently been eight months since I last posted about my D25’s process! She has 8 of 9 applications submitted and decisions back from 3 so far.
Her list:
Auburn (accepted)
Rollins (accepted)
Tennessee (accepted)
TCU
Furman
Richmond**
Wofford
Denison
William & Mary*, **
(*not yet submitted)(**test optional)
So S25 was just rejected from a safety. Like a way down on the list safety, after they have already received a few other acceptances at schools with trickier acceptances. Even though they shrugged it off, we are worried it doesn’t bode well for a lot of the other schools on their list.
While it doesn’t soothe the hurt, is it possible this is a result of yield management? Regardless, I’m sorry to hear this.
I am so sorry. The whole “nothing is safe” apparently is so very true. So hard to predict who is protecting yield, or just has unusual priorities? I am sure it stings (to put mildly) but if already in to other places I wouldn’t worry too much…
TCU is today too right? Good luck!
S25 has a few of the same schools. I’m starting to get a little paranoid about Rollins because he hasn’t heard anything from them yet. Here’s where he is.
Auburn (accepted)
Montana State (accepted)
Miami U
Gonzaga
Rollins
Sewanee
Furman
Trinity U
Notre Dame (crazy reach)
Wake Forest
U of Richmond
W&L
Ugh I’m so sorry, no one understands why this happens but I’m glad he has some other acceptances. Don’t take it as a sign for other schools, each admissions department is their own beast.
Thank you. I’m hoping that because it is a public, OOS school, it was just a numbers game. They don’t claim to have holistic admissions like most of the other schools on S25’s list. We also know that the school’s valedictorian applied to the same school as a safety (she’s my son’s BFF), so maybe they are only choosing to take one from our high school.
I think some of these decisions are so idiosyncratic that we just can’t know what their thinking is. I hope your son has lots of wonderful choices.
I mean, a few years ago one of my relatives (music major) was rejected from an in-state regional public, but got in at Juilliard.
It has become a sort of point of pride for them. Here’s hoping it works out the same way for your kid, once the initial sting has passed.
Really sorry to hear, & so glad to hear that they have other acceptances in hand. And I appreciate you sharing this–I’m feeling a little sheepish about how many schools S25 is applying to (15 so far), but he needs a lot of merit or financial aid to go to an LAC (his hope) & acceptances are so hard to predict. I feel better knowing that he if he does get rejected by some safeties, he will hopefully (like your kid) have other options. Despite this rejection, it sounds like your S25’s application strategy is working. Wishing them luck with their other schools.
Best of luck to yours as well!
