I can help you get excited for Oregon State. I know a faculty member there, but not in engineering. He is fantastic. My in-laws are split; half are Beavers and half are Ducks. I love, love, love Oregon. And although I never lived in Corvallis, I hear it’s a nice college town. The weather there is fine, IMO. It’s so beautifully green. Directly on the coast was worse because it was always windy. I have lived on both coasts and in a few places in the middle. Oregon is still my favorite even though I don’t live there anymore.
That sounds like an amazing gift to yourself. I hope you get to do it.
I have some airline miles to burn and have been thinking about a mother-daughter trip to the Bahamas for snorkeling with D25. But she’s been such a pill lately, it doesn’t sound as fun as it did this summer when we were on our college visits.
This is an awesome idea! I can’t take off right when kiddo start school due to the start of our semester, but I have planned a European Christmas Market cruise in December 2025 with my mom. I’m hoping that having something to look forward to will ease my anxiety.
Oh, and I plan to ceremoniously double my anxiety meds about a month before S25 departs!
One of my friends took a week long trip to Iceland after dropping off her youngest at college. She said it was the best thing she ever did to help her adjust and not be sad or feel like she was missing “her baby”.
An exciting week for the household so far… S25 was accepted into his ED school thrilled for him. Withdraw the applications at the EA schools and deposit on the to-do list!
And now we wait as D25 awaits her ED school outcome to be released next week! She is cracking on her RD applications, just in case…we all know the motivation going into winter break will be very hard to summon if she is looking at a deferral or rejection. Her ED is an Ivy, so even tho she has amazing stats and application, we know there are lots of similar profiles and table stakes are excellent grades and a high test score. Manifesting good vibes
Sending everyone patience and positive thoughts for any decision releases ahead!
When my oldest graduated from college I went back to the school she graduated from and got my masters. She was my only child at the time. You can do it!! Even if it’s just taking one class
THIS. I believe it’s called “soiling the nest” and it is full force at our house . EA decisions just dropped for in-state kids at one of D25’s schools (we are OOS). I mentioned it to her and she just about ripped my head off about how stressed she is and me mentioning it is not helpful. (Literally have not mentioned college at all this whole week to her!! Plus this should be a pretty solid admit for her - knock on wood.) I suppose she will just let us know when the bill comes due?! Grr.
The nerves were so high! Our kids are at boarding school so it’s never been an option to imagine opening decisions together (in person). As it turned out, he was in dining hall after swim practice and opened it before sitting down to eat, he texted me and I missed it so by the time we saw it he let me know he was eating and would call later fly baby bird fly.
You know, I’m just going to put out there that Sara Delano Roosevelt (the original helicopter mom) followed FDR to Harvard and that didn’t really seem to affect his potential.
ED decisions came out last night! And he is going to be an Ole! We are so happy for him. Good merit package too, which makes it even better. His grandparents were particularly thrilled.
Good luck to everyone waiting for news in the next week!
