CONGRATULATIONS!!! So, perhaps being in consideration for a Stamps Scholarship will move Virginia Tech up on his list?
S25 got his socks last week. I think he’s gonna get use out of them.
ditto
That’s incredible! Congratulations to him and to you. And at least now you know another acceptance is coming his way!
I love that they sent a personalized letter. That would be better than swag. My D25 definitely takes note of how the admissions counselors respond. When it comes down to final decisions, these little touches could make a difference.
Thanks everyone for the congrats on the interview for Stamps. I’m honestly still in shock. He’s a good student with good extra curricular a, but I read his essay last night and it was… fine. It answered the questions clearly, but wasn’t some amazing piece of writing. I’m guessing what we was in there must have struck a chord with the review panel. There’s still a good bit of hurdles to go through - 30 kids are interviewed for 10 spots, only seven of which are for VA residents (no idea how many of the 30 are VA residents, so Incant do the odds math). While he can have a conversation with an adult, interviewing is not one of his strengths. While I don’t think the questions would be particularly hard, it’s not like a test, they want to get to know the candidates (I assume), I do think they probably want to see engaged, passionate, excited young people. When S25 gets nervous that is NOT the affect he presents. He gets quiet and more reserved, more methodical, more sparse with words. So the interview will be a challenge.
Still though, such an honor to be considered.
@AustenNut asked if being considered might raise VT in his interest list. I think yes. If he got the scholarship, he’d be going there, no doubt. I don’t even need to push that, he said it. But I think even being considered is so flattering for him. VT has been climbing in the rankings (unclear why, I have no idea what has changed in his head.). I think it would still be very very hard to beat out Clemson - he just fell in love when we visited and the fun of watching their football over the fall and the early acceptance just kept giving him those nice dopamine hits if good feelings. But then he got deferred from Clemson honors. So maybe a little shine reduced there and a little shimmer added to VT? Who knows.
The letter clearly stated that being considered for Stamps doesn’t guarantee acceptance. I mean, it feels pretty likely, but I don’t want to jinx anything and you don’t know until you know. But hopefully once the last few decisions roll in he’ll have some good choices to make an a lot of things to think about as he fills out his pro/con list.
Oh wow! Congrats on the Stamps interview! It’s an honor to even get that far. Maybe it will change his mind a bit on VT?
This is a great little book to include in their first aid kit. https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-College-Student-Health-Handbook-ebook/dp/B084G9BF3P
Crazy that he was deferred from Clemson honors but then in the running for a full ride to VT. Makes no sense.
Happy Friday, class of 2025 parents!
An update on D25’s list:
Auburn - accepted
Rollins - accepted
Tennessee - accepted (in-state)

Wofford - accepted
Richmond (news today)
Denison (by March 15)
William & Mary (by March 22)
She’s had great fortune so far, but here we go into wilder waters.
Congrats to your D25! Does she have favorites from the accepted list?
Thank you! She says her mind is open to every one of her options. (Which is good.) But she’s not going to make up her mind before she hears from Denison, it seems.
D25 hasn’t seen Rollins or Wofford in person yet.
Mom (that’s me) hasn’t seen Rollins, TCU, Wofford, or Denison in person yet.
Her brother is a sophomore at Furman (and loves it), so it’s most familiar.
This is sort of my thought… and the essays weren’t all that different. Just very weird.
Honestly the randomness of @OctoberKate 's results really highlight the unpredictability of it all! Her son is clearly amazing and yet deferred from Clemson? A head scratcher. I feel like I’m going to use this example to help my daughter through her tough decisions.
Ensemble season is winding down for D. She didn’t make it into All State band this year and was really bummed about it for a good few days. She scored much higher this year compared to last but the competition was just so fierce. It’s a little galling to know her individual playing score would have put her squarely in the middle of the available seats but she made a couple mistakes in the other scored areas that kept her out. A kid from school who was like 2nd chair for his instrument last year didn’t make it in either in fact only 1 from her school got in.
She auditioned for Delaware recently and had a really good experience there. The instrument professor remembered her and made a point to talk to her before the meet and greet with all the music departments. She seems to really like UD and will hopefully have a tough decision to make in April. Only one more college audition in Feb then she’s done. She applied for a job in one of the elementary schools as an aide in the aftercare program. It’s a rough school but close to home and we know a teacher there who vouches for the person who runs the program. She wants to teach music and maybe special ed so it’s good experience.
Relying on memories from about 15 years ago: Rollins is a beautiful (though small) campus next to a cute old-fashioned main street in a wealthy suburb—and at least when I lived in the area, their college radio station was amazing.
Our musician kids have had so much on their plate this year! I’m sorry she didn’t make All State, but yay for another successful audition! Son’s last audition is Feb 1 and I’m so looking forward to that stress being over. Then it’s just a long waiting game as results for that school won’t be out until the end of March beginning of April.
I’m glad auditions are winding down for your son as well. Hopefully he has some good things going on that will distract him from the wait. It’s probably us that need the distraction more though lol!
Congrats!!
Yes! He has some fun things coming up. He gets to play at the NAMM convention this weekend and then he is in the pit for his school musical this spring.
