She is waiting on 3 more offers to see if she gets free tuition at those. She may want to visit 1 or 2 of the free tuition spots. I think she feels she needs to at least look and consider them but doubts she will love them as much or more

I think a lot of houses in narranganset are student housing 9 months and beach rentals for 3!
Downside is you have to drive to class, I guess as it’s like 15-20 minutes away (which I left out above) I think there are buses too? I can’t remember we toured awhile ago

Very promising! They are putting effort into his application - it’s a good thing! Whatever happens with the outcome at least he knows he was not put in the reject pile but made it into the next round. That’s how I would read that anyway.

Our IS d25 got accepted to UMD today. She also got invitation to Honors. It’s her top choice, so look like she is all set.

No RIT decision yet for C25. From what you’re saying, perhaps they’re being evaluated for their 2nd or 3rd choice major? Their 1st choice major is highly impacted but I can’t imaging they wouldn’t be accepted for one of their alternate majors. So strange
Well, S25 got his financial package from LMU today. We are a full pay family, so we were hoping for a large merit based scholarship, but it only came out $14k per year, which means it’s still $70k per year. I’m really not sure how normal people are supposed to do that. It also came the week that my wife’s company is shutting down for 3 months b/c of the stop work orders that have come down and they had to lay off 70% of their staff… so rough week.
It’s a bit rough b/c I think it was his first choice and we had said we’d need the cost to be under $50k per year. Oh well. He’s got other options that he likes.

That is what Reddit person implied, but I have no inside knowledge - I’m also not sure about timeline of majors w/in same school (like EE vs ME as opposed to EE and EE tech) the latter is what I think is sequential?
Last it’s all somewhat random I’m convinced - and there seems to always be exceptions when a schools decisions aren’t all at once
my kid got into URI today at last possible day for EA- they applied early, were highly qualified to get there, etc. who knows why it didn’t come out with bulk of them in December?
I think anything is still on the table for sure!

Big week for my youngest. Acceptances to Wisconsin, UMD (in honors program), and Georgia Tech. We were already excited about honors at UMD but then to get GT we were over the moon. A lot of big decisions coming

I am going to kill my S25. He procrastinates everything, literally everything. However he wanted to get his deferral info and grades to Wisconsin asap bc it’s his top choice. So he submitted everything and it explicitly says you cannot alter it. So today a letter comes that he’s been nominated for the Dept of Education Presidential Scholar award and says Oh yeah…I got an email about that. Needless to say, he didn’t include it. Grrrrr

Good news in the Speedwagon household this weekend: S25 was accepted at RPI with a nice chunk of merit. In a fun twist, his first cousin got exact same letter today! Most immediately this means that we don’t have to excise Troy from our Tour de Blizzard in a couple of weeks.
That’s it for college news until the reach schools all start to trickle in around mid-March. My plan between now and then is to get S25 to engage with as many of his existing options as possible. I’d love him to be able to at least have a top 3-5 before April.
On the quail front, the birds are large and flappy and now sharing an enclosure, wherein they seem to have bonded and are grooming each other from time to time. Sometimes we take them out but then they do things like run under the couch and poop in hard-to-reach places. Not real domesticated, these two…
I’m looking mournfully at Gizmo’s baby pictures from a week ago.
But at least they have each other now!

Maybe. It explicitly says not to email them but maybe in this case he should.
Yeah, bewildering how fast it is going. But given their 2-3-year lifespan, probably shouldn’t have been surprised.

My gut would be to follow the rules. Downside (stand out as careless and/or ignoring guidance) seems bigger than potential upside (having another award on their radar). All the inputs to that award should be visible to AO, right? High test scores etc? They can probably add 2+2 and get 4.
