Ooh, maybe I should complain about RIT performing arts and UNCW honors decisions and they’ll come faster! I have no idea when the first one is “due” but I know some have already gotten their decisions. I would think UNCW honors would come out today, as UNCW states they’ll provide decisions by 2/1.
25 heard from RIT this week (not performing arts though).
Someone on Reddit who appears to work at RIT said some EA candidates decisions may bleed into Feb .. also said they do release by school, and also sounds like second choices get reviewed on sequence and not in parallel
Wishing you fast fast decisions though!!
We did get an RIT admission decision - and then to my complete surprise, my daughter said RIT is at the top of her list next to NCSU (where she was deferred). That’s awesome - but expensive! I am crossing my fingers that she might win additional scholarship money via the performing arts scholarship.
I hope your son has good news from URI and Temple!
I think my kid may end up at RIT!
Funny how visiting can really change kids minds. Me being the amazing mom I am took her to tour a campus just to see if the 475 acres was the right size after she had already said under 200 acre campuses were really nice and the over 700 acre campuses were much too big. It was a school she had never heard of. She asked to buy the sweatshirt I thought mostly because she really likes the school colors. Now her dance coach asked her post grad plans to help with her end of year banquet speech. She texted me asking what she should say as she hasn’t put a deposit down yet. I told her she could always say undecided as the banquet isn’t for another month. D25 responds “But Mom, I am telling her XYZ school because if I don’t end up going there I will cry.” As the decision comes closer, she is realizing that she can’t imagine not going to that school. It ticks all her boxes. And it was a school she had never heard of and never would have every thought about unless I dragged her there.
I leave in about 30 minutes to send her bus off to the State dance competition. All 3 of my kids are ending up where they need to be, at places I feel are excellent fits for them. This mom’s college help job is almost done. I am super close to have launched them all!
My D25 is applying this cycle. She got 4 acceptance already, but waiting for the UMD, which is today at 4:45PM, I think.
Wish us luck !
congrats!! that is so lovely to hear…
woo-hoo admits to both. URI with presidential scholarship… that may make it more attractive to all.
My older guy applied to URI and I was so pleasantly surprised by it when we visited. We only put it on the list to have another engineering option and he was interested because of some of their engineering study abroad options. But then we visited and I was all “THEY SAID THE UPPERCLASSMEN LIVE ON THE BEACH!!!” That honestly might have done it for me
Anyhoo, congrats on the admits and scholarship. Good luck with the decisions ahead!
Right? Like some literally do live on the ocean (and many very close0 (!!)…I also liked the engineering study abroad, and thought campus was much prettier than I expected AND a brand new engineering building, which is nice.
I also like they have kids live with people in their major first year, especially for engineering I think this is helpful. I think they also have a “major/academic” RA to help with school stuff (!) Direct admit to 4+1 masters, too. A lot to think about …
I am trying to see if they have an engineering specific event. I think UNH and UVM and UNH may win out just for that approach…(very major-specific admitted student events).
D got the financial aid package from Puget Sound and it’s just the scholarships they already gave her and the fed loans with work study. It’s about $60k/yr so it’s officially out of the running. I’m almost glad it’s so far out of budget that there’s no second guessing. I’m hoping the admitted student day at Susquehanna will seal the deal. It’s my husband’s favorite and mine but we don’t have all the results yet. On another note since there wasn’t school today we went dress shopping for prom and for her big birthday party. She found a prom dress but no luck on the party dress, she still has a few months though. It was nice just the 2 of us shopping together.
Um, can I go there? Now I’m regretting it wasn’t on D25’s list.
Your day together sounds great! We have to make the most of them now, right?
That’s too bad about Puget Sound. Hope your D likes Susquehanna or finds another good fit that’s affordable.
That’s great! Do you have any decisions you’re waiting for or is it just about weighing options?
D25 has been admitted to University of Maryland today, got the presidential merit for University of Colorado at Boulder, and got deferred from Northeastern. First deferral. I was like, “Omg, we’re going to have to go through all of this again with the same school?” Like, just decide one way or another. It is not like they have essays to read.
Still waiting on the UCs, which will be released in March. It will be a bloodbath, an absolute bloodbath.
Son got into UMD today. He really enjoyed our visit there. He was very excited that students got free tickets to football games, which was surprising because he is not a big sports fan. It’s odd what kids focus on on tours. He’s 7 for 7 so far but there are a few reaches still to come in so I’m expecting him to come back down to earth at some point.
We need to start doing the pros and cons and financial spreadsheet next.
We had a very odd call today from the financial aid office from one of my son’s reach schools. Pretty intense questioning about the non-custodial parent waiver and supporting documents. All other schools have received the packet of info and granted the waiver immediately. The FO officer closed with “I’m sorry for all of the questioning, but if we are going to give financial aid for four years we have to make sure we are making the right decision.” Scary call, but does that sound hopeful, or am I reading too much into it?
Then son was deferred from Stony Brook, continuing his rejection/deferral streak with most state schools.
7 for 7!!! Amazing!
That sounds promising. I would assume he’s in consideration at least. Would they bother with a personal call if he was already a no? Fingers crossed!
