Parents of the HS Class of 2025 (Part 1)

Your daughter is going to Susquehanna, right? That’s an hour north of me, also in the Susquehanna Valley. I"m finding your comments hilarious. This winter was a bit cold, but very little snow. Most winters lately have been very mild.

Yes, Susquehanna but not normal Susquehanna. It’s the Susquehanna that has zombies :man_zombie:

On another note, your region of the state is beautiful and I’m so glad my D is going there!

For those of you trying to identify the best school, beyond objective measures, I think a conversation with ChatGPT can be quite productive. I have been trying to develop a prompt that generates the information I am looking for. If you want to try it out, just copy and paste (and add your colleges):

Using a comprehensive and nuanced fit framework, compare (College A) and (College B) across the following dimensions:
• Academic Environment
• Social and Emotional Culture
• Personal Growth & Identity
• Support Systems
• Long-term Fit
• Cultural & Regional Fit
• Values Alignment
• Lifestyle Preferences
• Career & Network Alignment
• Community Size & Feel
Highlight subtle but meaningful differences between the two institutions, carefully noting areas of concern or potential downsides that might not be immediately apparent. Clearly articulate how each dimension might uniquely influence a student’s daily life, sense of belonging, and long-term personal development. Present this analysis in a detailed side-by-side comparison chart, concluding with a concise yet insightful TL;DR summary that specifically addresses how a student might determine the best personal fit rather than simply identifying the “better” school.

I volunteer with this org and love it! Sent S22 and S24 to college and felt I had so much college knowledge and wanted to help.

I am excited to do that this year. Put all that acquired knowledge to good use. I am pretty sure it will be incredibly fulfilling.

I had 2 students this past year. One was unfortunately very disengaged from the beginning. But the other has been very engaged and I felt like I helped her a lot. She’s had some good results and I’m thrilled for her.

OMG! I just did that and it was awesome! Didn’t tell me anything I didn’t have an inkling about, but really crystalized things well. Thank you for coming up with such an interesting prompt!

This is amazing. I borrowed it and plugged in S25’s top 5, and the only two that make sense for him suddenly became crystal clear!

We are not choosing, but I occasionally find myself having buyers remorse (this was our first successful ED round and its wonderful but a little odd) and getting a little sad that D25 is not joining her older siblings at their school. Its absolutely ridiculous but the shared experience has been so special. But then ChatGPT reminds me very clearly that she made the perfect choice. Its obvious in every single category.

lol. Oh well. At least not denied right? And now this nightmare of waiting is over and time to love the schools that want him to be a part of their communities

Very good results for S25!!! He’s accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, and Penn. Fairly overwhelmed right now. Not sure how to advise him. But thrilled that his hard work paid off. Sending good vibes to everyone on this board as well!

My S25 got his first rejection tonight, but it was his reachiest reach- Brown. We were all prepared for a rejection but he was still a little disappointed. I think he had gotten his hopes raised because he had gotten into 15/15 schools already.
Luckily he is very happy with his options and we are really excited for him.
Time to celebrate now that this part of the process is done!!! Phew!
Now on to admitted students days.

Yeah. Mine took it harder than he should. I’m like dude it’s over. Time to focus on the schools that are excited about you coming to them and screw the rest.
