Parents of the HS Class of 2025 (Part 1)

I hope you all have a wonderful time at Clemson. Or maybe I should wish you have a good time at Clemson and a better time at VT? I’ll let you put the well wishes into whichever pile they should be in!

The obvious answer is Waffle House.

Or Bojangles.

On the topic of spring break-no plans for us. My husband is a teacher in a neighboring state. Generally, they have the same break, but they are offset by a week this year. Initially, I was super bummed because family vacations will be harder now with different schedules and money. Now I realize it is probably for the best. I think the kid needs a relaxed break, which is in 2 weeks. He plans to sit in on a class at one of his options and also go to the admitted students day that week. His AP teachers have already started practice sessions and he has a community service project he can work on. I took off for his break so I may take him and a friend somewhere for a day or a night if we feel up for it. Looking forward to the staycation and hoping we are closer to a decision by the end of it. Kid seems to be recovering from last weekend’s rejections. He still says he needs more info before we talk more about the decision, which is fair. It all rests on these admitted students days. He is generally a decisive kid and I think when we go back to places he may just know. Hope everyone has safe travels and informative college visits!

Good idea to try for more merit. I wish these policies were more uniform. It just irks me how it only benefits the institution.

I was pushing for Waffle House actually! We don’t do meat on Friday’s in lent and we’d already had Mexican for lunch (can I call chipotle Mexican?). But I was overruled. We ended up getting pizza. And it is 9:20 - I left my house at 11:40 - and we are Still Not There. (The phone says seven minutes, so hopefully that’s not a lie.)

Is there a reason you decided to drive and not fly?

I’m cheap. Three plane tickets plus a rental car plus the hotel is more than we wanted to spend. We do an 8.5 hour drive the other direction to drop my older n off pretty regularly. I thought this was also 8.5 and would be no big deal. It ended up more like 10, but we probably were only driving for 9 of those since we stopped for gas, lunch, and dinner. It just felt like forever, probably because we’ve never done the strait route before.

C25 and I were just talking about how we’ve never been to Waffle House.

I just love this! It so perfectly expresses where we are and what is important. Really good reminder to be in the moment!
Thanks for sharing.

If you played “Holiday Road” the entire trip, it wouldve made the drive a lot better.

My friends son goes to Clemson. I can ask them how he gets home without driving. But LOTS of DC area kids go there so I’m sure he’ll be able meet people who live here and carpool

Waffle House is not exactly high end cuisine…. But breakfast for dinner is always good in my mind.

Uggg! That’s awful! My 2023 got dumped by her long term BF the day after prom a few years ago. It was a NIGHTMARE! :sob: Glad yours bounced back quickly and had a great night!

Waffle House always brings up the best road trip memories for me … I’ve never lived in a state with them, so I always look forward to a stop when driving through a state that has Waffle House. I’m traveling to North Carolina next month and was excited that my flight arrives well before the event begins that I’m traveling for ..so that maybe I can sneak in a waffle house trip.

I am leaving this forum now. This site was very helpful in charting my D25’s application journey. Will revisit when my S28 will be ready for his journey. Thank you to all the folks who answered my questions and provided emotional support. Good luck you all.

I’m staying until I know where OctoberKates son commits to. I’m invested.

I mean nothing keeping us from staying afterward. We may have a lot of time on our hands.

I will probably be here. I will likely need support this fall when I am getting too many or too few phone calls. Could go either way.

I know a ton of kids from DC area who go to Clemson and also VT. Do know that they car pool home for breaks etc from either school so you won’t have to do the long drive except for when you visit them at school.
