I love it! I tracked down a bunch of inexpensive things for him - I had a few friends who were upgrading their furniture, so he got a couch, chair, rug and floor lamp for free. All of his pots and pans, dishes and glasses were free (old stuff of mine, my moms or my sisters). I got him some nice barstools (no kitchen table, just a counter) on facebook marketplace for super cheap. His desk was recycled from the one his brother took to college last year (and doesn’t need this year) and his desk chair is an extra from our house. I did end up buying him some bedroom stuff - bed, mattress, dresser and a rug for in there, plus a coffee table for the living room but those were his college graduation gifts and were generally inexpensive. He still needs an end table, a TV stand, and a tv, but those are on him. He’s planning to do some buy nothing or facebook marketplace.
Poor guy, he didn’t have the most inspiring first day of work. He called on the way home and it was like Everything Is So Horrible on the Horrible No Good Very Bad Day. I don’t think it was really that bad, but a few things were hard - first, it was extra long. They do four, ten hour days in the summer. I don’t think he was banking on a ten hour day and I don’t think he had enough food. Second, his boss is out of town and the guy who showed him around basically walked him around a bit in the morning, then left him in his cube - which is in a separate building away from his team - all day with lots of reading. He said he kept thinking someone would come by at lunch to invite him out or show him the cafeteria, but no one ever did, so he just ate alone at his desk. Anyway, I think it was like, do you remember when our kids started kindergarten and that whole first week they came home ridiculously exhausted and cranky and everything was terrible? It was just like that. I know it will get better, but he was so unhappy yesterday.
