Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Okay - thanks! I was definitely overthinking it! And YES – we are celebrating EVERY admit!!

I have a lot of respect for students + their parents when the student has a large list of colleges they’re applying to (like 15-20). that’s a lot to keep track of! And each school is a little different.

  • school A wants 1 LOR while others want 2
  • school B says ok to send screenshots of your ACT/SAT & AP test scores to admissions dept via email but School C wants ACT/SAT sent directly from the testing company
  • Some schools want transcript directly from your high school while others say it’s ok for student to email a PDF of the high school transcript to the admissions office
  • etc
  • etc

If D26 does insist on still proceeding w/her UT-Dallas app, we still need to order an ACT score report to be sent to them. Oops, forgot about that.

D26 learned today that all of the LORs for her have been sent to the colleges she’s applying to + counselor LOR + school report, so she’s very relieved about that.

Post it everywhere you like! Some parents post on the school threads, and the Parents of 20xx thread, and their own child’s chance me thread, etc. I am personally always delighted to see and :tada: anyone’s acceptance anywhere!

It can be useful to post on the school threads regardless of whether you consider it a safety or reach for your child. Parents (and students) visit these threads to get a sense of who is applying and being accepted, receiving merit, and honors. Don’t feel that your child’s stats are too high to post. There will be high stat students every year who will end up going to all of these schools even if it wasn’t their top choice, either because that’s how their acceptances ended up, or for cost reasons. It can be cheering for them to see the celebratory posts from parents and students all over the stat spectrum because it helps them to understand the wide range of students that attend all of these schools.

This thread seems pretty supportive, and I “know” you guys and have talked about my D26 and her list ad nauseam, LOL, so I will post here. Probably also the individual school threads.

And I bet I will be posting a “help us make a choice” thread when all acceptances are in, hahaha. My kid is the very worst at making decisions.

With my older one, I refrained from posting on social media until the very end, and D22 had chosen where she would attend. College application season is brutal at our school. I’ll probably do the same this time around.

It’s amazing how smart kids are these days. I was never a great student, just did enough to get by. I remember taking a bio test and there was an animal heart with numbered pins and you were supposed to write down what part of the heart for each numbered pin.

Because I was lazy and never studied, I wrote right aorta 5 times (of course none of them were the right aorta) and missed all 5 questions.

I was very self aware so I was determined to marry someone smart so my kids would be smart and here we are!

Also, we no doubt have many Class of 2027 readers keeping up with our experiences (and those of our C26s) throughout this application year. Waving hello to all of you, Class of 2027! :waving_hand:

I’d also say even if your kid ISN’T “high stats” (which I’m not even quite sure what the threshold for that is), it’s useful to post because I think these boards tend to skew “high stats” and it makes parents of kids who aren’t ultra high stats worry that they’ll get rejected everywhere. It’s nice to see “normal stats” kids getting accepted to schools when all you’ve seen posting about getting in are high stats.

Of course!! I was just responding to ali-ice’s comment about how they considered these schools to be a safety for their child.

I’m not really sure my kid is high stats compared to most of the kids on here honestly! My daughter’s targets might be other kids safeties! But yes - I think its really good to see the range!

There is also an ongoing thread somewhere that is an ongoing list real results (will try to find it and link). Over the last few years I have loved catching up on that one along with the school threads. And will look forward to seeing then here too.

Edit with link: Can more graduating/graduated seniors do "actual results" threads?

So, 1989 was not going to be my guess for a Western Union acceptance. I was guessing longer ago than that.

I wrote my application to my Alma Mater by hand! But Western Union acceptance takes the old-timey cake😂

Heck, in my house we are celebrating every application that actually goes out. :joy: One more to go in the November EAs, it’s basically done. Then, on to the RDs.

Same! I was applying to college in 1990/91 – and I don’t remember telegrams being a thing. But I have no idea if University of Florida maintained a waitlist back then, and whether they sent telegrams to admit people off it. It does seem old-timier than I remember that time period being, LOL.

Florida had a 4-page form application for all the public universities in the state, and I tried to type it up but couldn’t get it to line up correctly, so I filled out a new one and just printed as neatly as I could. And I just had to check the box for UF, and that was that.

My kids, too, just look at me when I tell them about this. :joy:

I was just asking my wife to guess when Western Union stopped being a thing. She thought maybe 1960’s! Yeah, I had NO idea. But then I do remember Back to the Future where Marty gets a telegram in the 1980’s from the 1950’s, so guess it checks out!

Me either, I was thinking longer ago too.

C26 is in at Pitt!
This may push UMN (which they are still waiting for) out of consideration- there’s a lot to like about UMN but their competitive secondary admission to major is a stress that they’d probably prefer to avoid. but that’s a discussion for another day. The “big” ones they are waiting for are only due end of Jan and neither afaik ever do rolling ahead of the final date.

Congrats to your C26!! Even if the first acceptance isn’t to their top choice, it’s always great to get one.

Pitt is a great option to have, I am really pleased for them. And it definitely wasn’t a safety - it looked fairly decent chances from Maia so I thought it was a target, but collegevine had it as a reach. (Though it has some that I would consider a reach as targets so, maybe best to ignore them haha)

It is actually their second acceptance btw - they got into ASU a while back. That was the “known” safety as they were auto admit on their stats.

I think Maia would be more accurate just because that’s based on results of people from your own school (at least if it’s like Naviance). Collegevine and Niche’s chancing calculators tend to be a little less accurate IMHO.

Either way, I’m so happy for your child! Lots of Pitt applicants and fans here. My daughter got in a few weeks ago. Haven’t seen it yet. Going to the accepted students day on 12/1. I have a good feeling about it.

The main issue with Maia is that C26 is a bit of an outlier on a lot of the charts (low gpa/high SAT), though most applicants to Pitt from our school had been accepted regardless where they were on the chart which is why I thought it looked decent.
