Parents of the HS Class of 2026

Tell her that it’ll only get better once she gets a job, work 60 hours a week, have bills, and no longer have spring break - that’s when the fun really begins!

On a completely different topic, online shopping that things that annoy me:

  • notifications that start “Good news!” (we are shopping or shipping your order, usually). It’s “good news!” that you’re doing ..what I paid you to do? Um, ok.
  • “shipping” notifications that really mean it’s moved from one room in their warehouse to another. I only need to know when it’s actually headed out the door, thanks!

My favorite is when I load up the cart, get sidetracked and realize days later I never purchased. Then when I logged back in, and I look, all the prices are up!

So d26 was deferred from Colby ED to RD. We’re not quite sure what to think of that. I didn’t even realize it was something that they did. Especially since their regular decision acceptance rate is abysmally low compared to potentially what their early decision acceptance rate is. The letter also talks about how by going to regular decision, she’s now eligible for going to France the first semester. I feel like they’re trying to keep her hopes up or something. I told her to think on it for the weekend and if she wants to decline going regular decision or let things play out or continue applying elsewhere. It’s completely up to her.

Now we move forward to the first indoor track meet of the season (and also of her whole life lol)

Ha! For sure. I’m just realizing today that I only have one or two gifts purchased, and Christmas is in freaking two weeks. Gotta get on that. My girls both asked for the latest Pokemon game, and S25 asked for a Festival Pass to watch online screenings at the Sundance Film Festival.

Except that’s sold out, so, oy.

I was more annoyed today that some random comedian I follow pronounced Chipotle as “chi-pole-tee.” Come on!

Hugs to your daughter!!

That really stinks. Hopefully she can assess things over this weekend and decide on a great path forward!!

Clearly you don’t get 15 “you forgot something in your cart!” emails like I do

Oh man. Hugs. Hoping it works out whichever way is best for her.

That’s frustrating!

However, at least she does have some sort of answer, even if it’s a deferral. She should apply elsewhere and the deferral to RD does allow for that from what I understand.

Ughghg, I’m sorry. It’s important to remember the deferral isn’t a no – but it’s tough to swallow. Hugs to y’all as she considers how she wants to move forward.

What are the requirements to throw your hat in the ring for RD? I only ask because people have been discussing it on the Georgia Tech thread – apparently they give space for 150 words on the form for additional info.

Awww, I’m sorry. I wish it was better news, but at least it’s not a flat out “no” and she has some time to think about how she wants to proceed now.

D waiting for Dartmouth, which hasn’t announced when ED decisions are coming out. I originally was sure it would be tomorrow, but now I’m not so sure.

My daughter is waiting for this, too. It’s so hard to not know when the decisions will be released!

I actually respond to these emails– I write something like, “I actually didn’t forget anything. I’m interested in [product], but I’ve also got two consecutive college tuitions coming up, so I have to see if [product] is in the budget.”

One company– I think it was Woolx– responded and said it was just some automatically generated email, but then gave me a coupon

Good luck! I think our kids are looking at a lot of the same schools. I’m trying to look at this as a win-win … either she gets in ED, or we get to see how RD pans out and she will hopefully get a lot of love from a lot of schools (there are 17 others on the list).

I am also woefully behind on the holidays.

Hugs to you and your daughter. My niece was in almost this exact boat with Colby a couple of years ago, they seem to get a lot of applications. And both my twins were flat out rejected from their ED 1 schools. Now they are thriving sophomores elsewhere. It will work out. But those nights were not easy.

Good luck to your kiddo, too! Yes, my daughter has applied to 23 schools, so it would be a little sad to not know the results after all of that work. So many essays! She loves Dartmouth, though, so she would be happy with never knowing the results of the others if she gets in!

Should I try this with a Prada handbag?! Mighty tempted. Hmmmm….
