I really wish C27 would do ED to William & Mary. It’s by far my favorite school for them (perfect mix of size, in state tuition, rigor), and it would give them a very good chance to get in (instead of like a 60% chance according to Naviance and CollegeVine). But they like it and don’t love it and want to see what all their options are. So, we’ll be waiting for a while to know everything.
This sounds accurate. And my S27 can attest that they do send emails that frequently. (And because they really care about demonstrated interest, I’ve told him he should probably click through and explore the website–but twice a day?!?)
What’s even stranger about Case Western is that even if you visit the school, they may still not consider it demonstrated interest. They’re a very stealthy yield-protect school. They reject a number of really high-stat kids if they don’t think those students will enroll.
I think they have major yield PTSD, given that their yield is only around 15–17% and they’re often viewed as the “Ivy League safety school.”
The Kid is officially a National Merit Semifinalist!
I don’t think i have ever got 2 a day, FWIW - more like 4-5 a week? I wonder if there are multiple lists? OR you are counting parent + kid emails (if you have access to both accounts)
It is actually one of my kids top choices so we are trying to play DI game …
reading past CC threads, they do seem to have unpredictable acceptances… I think they do, probably, use a lot of data prediction behind scenes we don’t “get” from outside and it is, well, a bit odd. That said, it doesn’t seem weird my kids (both) naviances.. ![]()
U Chicago is also weird. I don’t get all their postcards…
D27 must be on multiple lists for CWRU - she’s undecided for major so she probably selected both STEM and humanities possible majors. And along with the general emails there have been a lot of STEM- and humanities-focused subject lines (I’m not clicking through all that!) so I think your multiple list theory is spot on.
Ohhh stem + humanities may do it! Argh that’s awful! Mine doesn’t get any humanities ones eek
They should coordinate those lists for sure
I’d be annoyed if coming that fast
If you apply to a school that does not admit by major, you may get an admissions bump if you apply as a humanities major vs engineering, CS, business, econ, nursing, bio-premed adjacent, etc.
But of course your application must be seen as authentic and not filled with only robotics, coding, FBLA, DECA etc type of ECs
Daughter has gotten over the inertia of summer. Common app is filled out and essay written. It’s good, it’s not great. I resisted the urge to punch it up. You don’t want it to sound like a 50 year old college grad wrote it. First app went out to Ole Miss on 8/31 and was accepted yesterday, the 8th! Got the UGA app out as well but that is a mid-Dec decision. Progress.
Mine too! 2 older siblings were NMSF also so she felt a real competitive drive to do well on the PSAT. I don’t think she will be going to a college where it will translate to big $$$ though.
Any 2027 parents have kids interested in Lewis & Clark or Univ of Puget Sound? I think those are my kiddo’s top 2 at the moment. But they’re small and not super high profile, so it’s been hard to find folks to chat with.
I have a good friend that teaches in a science department at L&C. Plus one of my former student’s daughters just started there this fall (also a STEM-my student). PM me and I’ll see what I can find out for you!
Congrats!
I don’t think any of the full-ride NMSF schools would be a good fit for my kiddo. He may end up getting small or medium money ($-$$), though, which would be awesome.
Did your other kids get big NMSF scholarships?
My son got lucky and went to UF on the full ride Benaquisto the last year it was available to out of state students. My daughter is a junior at Fordham and received the full tuition scholarship (which is still available but no longer specified as a NMSF scholarship). We feel very fortunate!
Class of ‘28 watching this thread to see what’s ahead for us. D got on Case’s mailing list and recently attended an info session in our city. It could be a good fit for her planned field of study, but we have not visited to assess the personal fit yet. They send two emails per day, I just checked her college email account to verify that we aren’t imagining it. It’s early days but she isn’t loving it yet, I could see it dropping off the list due to annoyance factor.
CWRU sent one I found kind of creepy today. It’s all, I’ve been looking forward to your application, I haven’t seen it yet, just want to remind you, I think you’d really like it here, with “Am I reaching D27’s first name?” as the subject line. Such an off putting tone.
Not my D27, but my D28 is interested in both those, especially Puget Sound. And my sister-in-law and cousin both went to Lewis and Clark.
D27’s (large, suburban public) school had its senior night last night. The experience was surreal. They told the kids that colleges do not consider AP scores in their admissions decisions, that “some schools may” require 2 years of a language but it’s not a graduation requirement, and that most merit aid is distributed to early applicants, leaving very little for kids who apply RD.
But other than that, D27 is off to a good start to the school year. She’s signed up for two portfolio review days and is working on her essay. Many of her schools don’t offer EA, so she really only has three apps to finish before November.
Have you visited? We went to both back in March and enjoyed them both. Very different experiences, since L&C is quite isolated and Puget Sound is more suburban. I could t tell which my kid preferred — saw positives in both settings and both campuses are lovely in different ways.
She went to Puget Sound with her grandma (I wasn’t on the trip) and was surprised how much she liked it. It was just kind of a ‘because it’s there’ visit – high acceptance rate and nearby (she was visiting grandma in Seattle), but said it was one of her 2 favorites (all the other places she visited were on the east coast on a trip with D27). Currently her thought is she wants a small liberal arts college that’s either a women’s college or in the Pacific northwest (she’d probably love if there was overlap in those), but she hasn’t visited any of the other Pacific Northwest colleges yet. I’d love to give her a chance this year sometime, but will have to prioritize travel budget for D27 depending on where she gets admitted to and needs to visit.
