Parents: what is your alma mater (and did your kids go there too?)

Me-- Michigan in Ann Arbor --from outofstate. Unfortunately I can’t afford to send my kids there even though they both got accepted there. The tuition for out of state is so high $45,000 (and it increases each year) plus with room and board it’s about $57,000 cost of attendance per year. We don’t qualify for need-based aid and Michigan does not give a lot of merit aid. Son was offered zero merit with his high stats. However, he attends Michigan’s arch nemesis Ohio State, proving that imitation is the greatest form of flattery! Ohio State has a lot of the same as Michigan–large research university, good honors program, modern and renovated facilities, great academics, tons of course offerings, great Big 10 sports teams and a lot of school spirit and also a large fun Greek system. And at half the price, because Ohio State offers great merit aid (National Buckeye plus Maximus or Provost or trustee on top of that) to attract high stat out of state kids like my own, who would rather attend there than a SUNY. Go Blue! But Go Bucks too!!
