you have nothing special except for your URM status
make sure your essays and recs are outstanding; they could push you in

As as person who works in an elite institutution of higher education. I would say your changes are outstanding. First of all, there is a dearth of Black male students with your stats. The fact that you’re a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholars and National Achievement Scholars is noteworthy. Unless you come across obnoxtious or arrogant in your interviews, you can go anywhere. Males in general are getting priority in many instances from females students just because institutions want to maintain gender balance. For Black students, it’s particularly difficult to find many Black male students with your stats unless they are African or from the Caribbean. These people who are making you feel like you have no hope do not understand how this system works.

birthofthecool, in rereading your posts from other threads, I’m wondering if you are legit. First of all, you have to know the stats on AA males. If you did, you would know that you’d be in the top five percent in the country. Very few, if ANY Black male students (domestic) get the scores that you get (for a variety of reasons that I won’t discuss here). You will highly sought after based on the test scores alone (so that haters won’t claim you aren’t “qualified”). My daughter was recruited to top school based on her PSAT. These schools track very high scoring URM as well as others. Have you received inquires. My daughter was flooded with attempts to have her come visit colleges and universities, etc. Similiar Black students with high stats experienced the same treatment. One of her classmates and best friends (Black female) was also a National Achievement Scholar and is now at Harvard. But, she got in other Ivies as well. So, I’m really curious about these posts of yours. I’ve seen your list on another post. You should be fine. Also, it’s difficult for me to believe that your parents would be upset if you didn’t get into Stanford. YOu don’t make the decision, the admissions committee does.

I’m legit.

o well, i ended with a C in Calculus for the semester. Could I still get in or should I change my last name?
