Just heard my brother cancelled his flight to Paris tonight (he’s the pilot, private jet). Guess they are staying in Berlin for the night. Probably will skip Paris altogether at this point.
It’s so incredibly sad. Sounds like over 100 casualties in the theatre.
I’m so glad for those of you that have had good news about friends or family.
Ditto to what @Nrdsb4 said. I have been to Paris several times and have many happy memories and dream of going again. I am in tears watching the news. My heart goes out to the people of France.
At least 1500 attended the concert, over/at least 100 dead at the concert hall. The French president has arrived there. Casualties are still being evacuated. Lots of cries can be heard by the wounded.
(Still.no news from one.friend).
Another concert goer said the gunmen spoke French, said French people were going to pay for what the French government was doing in Syria. They didn’t wear balaclava and shot people looking at them. They also said if you move you’re dead and proceeded to shoot those they saw move.
Probably 40-60 in six other places. There was a major international soccer game but the attacks were nearby not in the stadium.
My feeling is that we should embrace each day with our loved ones. not hold grudges and live our lives to the fullest because we aren’t exactly immune to this happening in our country either. Make peace with the people in our lives with whom we have issues with ( at least if they are family ) We never know when it is the last time we will see our loved ones…no more griping about spouse’s leaving the toilet seat up or buying a purse they didn’t need…our children not getting their college apps done in time for EA or ED…don’t sweat the small stuff
It’s just terrible that France has been plagued recently with these terrorist attacks that kill innocent lives. I honestly don’t know what they can do to ameliorate their situation.
Friend is safe. (Relief )
Apparently for the past six months specialists knew there’d be such an attack but it’s impossible to prevent young people from.getting a gun and the police can’t track how they’re going to use it. All the health, safety, and general services had training simulations for this scenario, in planning and implementing emergency response protocols , in the past months.
Apparently the young men are French and as far as is known never went abroad so were not on the watch list.
Over 150 innocent people murdered! Madmen. They and their supporters are insane!
Despite the fact that President Hollande has closed the borders, NY authorities report that the JFK to Paris flights that had been held at the airport are now taking off. Understandably some passengers declined to board.
I’m shocked but sorry to say that I’m not surprised. After Mumbai, Kenya and other BIG terrorist attacks on soft targets, it was bound to happen.
This type of terrorism doesn’t even require organized terrorist cells. Aurora & Umpqua show that even one radicalized disaffected person can inflict a lot of damage.
Absolutely frightening is the fact that this happened at 7 locations, but only 5 attackers have been “neutralized” and they were at the concert venue and 1 suicide bomber at the stadium. That means at least 5 madmen/madwomen are at large, perhaps more since this thing had to have been elaborately planned.
