PBS Call the Midwife

^Thanks for a wonderful Thanksgiving day gift!!!

When do they return?

I logged into this thread thinking the show was a documentary and planning to watch to compare it to my own midwifed births. However, this show sounds great and I am going to figure out how to watch past seasons. It seems like something I could watch with H. Generally, he prefers old movies and I prefer true crime and real housewives, so we sit on the couch with dueling remotes.

I was interested to read that Pam Ferris is in it. She was in one of my family’s all time favorite movies - Matilda.

The holiday special, in which the midwives go to South Africa, is airing on PBS on Christmas at 7:30 p.m. Set your DVRs!

Thanks, @Barbalot. I’ve been waiting for the DVR to have programming for Christmas Day loaded and I appreciate the reminder

@techmom99 My husband is willing to watch the show, but tends to close his eyes for each birth.

The Christmas special was good! Did anyone else watch? I recorded it and just watched it this morning.

Looking forward to the new season.

@mathmom -

My H actually helped deliver the first two. The other births were more complicated, but he was present. I think he will do running commentary if we can find the show.

Thanks for the reminder! I missed it on broadcast but was able to install the PBS app on my Fire Stick and watched it just now.

My husband was right there with my two births, but it wasn’t his favorite thing to do.

I thought it was good. Just happened across it and glad I did!

Why don’t they have it on Demand?

I (a male) love the births on Call The Midwife! I cry almost every time.

Like mathmom’s husband, I was right there when my children were born. Not particularly useful, but there. You bet I cried then, too.

I saw about half of the Christmas special as it aired pretty early here on the East Coast. New season begins in April.

My H was present for the births of both our kids. His very important job was to keep anyone from touching me unless it was essential. This allowed me to “stay in the zone” and honestly not feel any pain – just increasing pressure. I’ve watched a few of the shows on YouTube and am ambivalent.

“honestly not feel any pain – just increasing pressure”
You have a WAY higher pain threshold than I do. Way.

Yes, I do have very high pain threshold and do NOT do well with sedation, so it’s good to have a high pain threshold.

Just watched the special off my DVR and feel like I’ve been given the blessing of an attitude adjustment. Sometimes we all need the reminder of how something as simple as clean water can be the ultimate gift. Also, although I lived most of my wife without the technology we enjoy now, I think I forget how convenient it has made our lives, Looking forward to April!

We tuned in 30 minutes late (not used to programs starting at 7:30)–I hope it shows up on demand eventually, as we missed the whole set up as to how they ended up in South Africa to begin with.

@MADad, the premise was that the administrator nun from Hope hospital had died and Sister Julienne & company were called to travel to South African to administer a vaccine program and evaluate urgent needs (which turned out to be the water source). The program is on the PBS website for now. My experience is that PBS shows aren’t in my on demand, but only available via internet and PBS app on my Firestick.

Darn, missed it. Had to replace our DVR and all my shows that are set up to record whenever a new one shows up are gone. Hope I can find a rerun somewhere.
