PBS' Mercy Street

Yea, I wasn’t all that impressed with the first episode, either. Just didn’t grab me, but I’ll give it another episode or tow to see if it picks up.

We’ve been told locally that it was filmed in Alexandria! How bizarre. IMDb shows Richmond and Petersburg as being the filming locations.

Agree that the acting was mediocre to bad, the southern accents forced, the script weak, the gore was way overdone.

I watched the beginning, because I didn’t turn off the TV after Downton. Nothing grabbed me besides the costumes.

I agree that there was just too much gore for me. Disappointing. I have also watched the whole season of Downton Abbey already and I loved it.

I have it on my DVR to watch during the blizzard and hope it will be at least mediocre and I have electricity to watch it. The publication I edit did a story on the show. It’s set in Alexandria and filmed in Richmond, but Alexandria buildings were recreated, and you can visit some of them in Alexandria today, such as the pharmacy.

I have got to watch Crimson Field’s on PBS. org. That will be what I watch tonight. Have any of you ladies watched
Outlanders on Starz??? Amazing. I just picked up the book from the library.
I sure home Mercy Street gets better!

Really liked Crimson Fields. Another miniseries to put on your DVR is War and Peace. On A&E, it was on my on demand. Only part 1 has aired.

Fan of Outlander on Starz - before the show started, I read the books, although I only discovered them somewhat recently. Was nice because I didn’t have to wait for them to be published!

On PBS I’ve enjoyed The Crimson Field, Home Fires, Call the Midwife, Indian Summers, Downton Abbey, etc.

I really liked War & Peace - visually stunning, love the music, big production.

I watched the first episode of Mercy Street. Sufficiently interesting that I will continue to watch.

Watched the first episode off the DVR on Wednesday. I see that it is 6 episodes, so I will watch this season. Whether or not it will hold me past that, we’ll see. I gave up of Mr. Selfridge after the first season and this one could have the same fate.

Bad sign for Mercy Street that no one topped this thread before now. I watched, because it was 9 pm on a Sunday night and I was too lazy to get up after DA.

Got caught up on Twitter at the same time.

Dull. Not well acted. Bleak and dark. What characters are we supposed to like? Why would whatever military guy is in charge of the hospital let the evil basement dude get by with not feeding the patients?

I agree, missypie. Not one character that I want to root for and bleak and dark.

Yes, @missypie, that about sums it up. I want to like it more than I do.

I’ve been trying to figure out why it just isn’t working. I actually think the actors, or at least some of the actors, are fine–I’d like to throttle the Southern belles  --and I think the problem is the way it is lit and shot.
