How will be watching?..I will.
I loved “Indian Summer”.
As Downton is winding down and boring as it is wrapping up. I am looking for a new great one. I really loved Indian Summer
When does it start ?
Finally, an American costume drama! Looking forward to it!
It starts tonight after Downton, Set your DVRs now ladies! Can’t wait for the costumes! We can start discussion on this thread if you guys would like.
ME, ME, ME!
I wanted to love Indian Summer, I tried, I really did. I did love the recent one (the name escapes me) about the WWI Nurses at the field hospital in France.
I just noticed it’s available for streaming on pbs.org right now - so you don’t have to wait if you don’t want to!
@labegg, I missed the WWI Nurses in France, would love to watch that one.
I think I read that the Crimson Field wasn’t renewed, so we are left hanging after the six episodes that aired. It wasn’t as good as Downton or Home Fires, but I didn’t want more of the story.
I love the hoop skirts but I sure am glad I never had to wear one. I don’t know how that girl kept the dress as white as she did.
It’s the oddest sensation though when you see an actress play a wholly different role. One of the nurses in Crimson Field was the actress in Scott and Bailey. What different roles!
The Knick on Cinemax is an American costume drama, and a very good one. Dr. Stanley Burns, the medical consultant for Mercy Street, also worked on The Knick.
Just finished watching the first episode. Enjoyed the story but didn’t find the acting to be very good. I am not sure that I will continue to watch. The Knick is far superior.
I didn’t think Mercy Street first episode was very good, but I will still watch it and see if it gets better.
No, the premise seems so utterly grim to me. I’ve read enough descriptions of what it was like. Just not interested.
I agree about the acting…not great, The writing doesn’t seem that great either. I was in college with Gary Cole and always like to see him working.
I loved The Crimson Field. I was just wondering when we be able to see more of it. Bummer.
I watch The Knick, but it can be very hard. I stopped in the middle of the last episode I was watching because I realized what was about to happen, and the lengths to which a vicious racist was willing to go were just too much for me.
I don’t think that the final season of Downton was boring in the least. (I’ve watched the whole thing.)
sigh. i really wanted to like Mercy Street.
i’ll probably give it one more shot but wow, it was tough going last night. i couldn’t stop the scarlett o’hara comparisons in my head and kept wishing they would have been a bit more original with that character. most of the other characters were meh, save the brilliant free man and his mad skills–i found myself wanting more of his story arc.
i realize first episodes can be hard since you have to define characters and set the scene but i think it was a massive struggle for this show. (i also think there was too much focus on gore-imo, the bright average watcher knows the horrors of a civil war era hospital…again, no offense, but GWTW did it better).
Mercy Street was filmed in the Richmond area. One building I recognized must have been digitally edited because the background doesn’t match today’s at all. I guess that’s to be expected. I got to googling and my son should have auditioned to be a dead soldier last summer. They were looking for skinny non tattooed men aged 18-26.
I agree the dialogue seems off.
I watched. I thought the first episode was okay, but not great. Good enough I’ll probably watch episode 2.
I gave up on Indian Summers half way through.
I liked Crimson Field a lot. I thought the acting was really good.
